What Series is Kiyohime in?

Kiyohime is a Berserker-class Servant appearing in Fate/Grand Order where she can be summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru. She can also be summoned as a Lancer-class Servant wearing a swimsuit and carrying a naginata spear. Kiyohime is mentioned briefly in Fate/Extra by Caster who describes her as an “email friend.”

True Identity

Berserker Kiyohime is the incarnation of the classic character from the Japanese “Kiyohime” legend in which the noble daughter of a village chief falls in love with a priest, Anchin, who requests a single night’s lodging with her family while making his way towards a temple in Kumano. Anchin returned her feelings, but as a monk felt incapable of acting on them and ultimately rejected her. Driven mad by Anchin’s sudden change of heart, Kiyohime followed him as he tried to escape by paying a boatman to take him across the river, jumping into the water where she turned herself into a dragon through the power of her rage. Anchin ran to a temple for sanctuary where they hid him under a giant bell, but Kiyohime was able to smell him inside. Tapping the bell with her tail, she unleashed her anger in the form of fire and roasted Anchin alive. Unable to come to terms with what she had done, Kiyohime drowned herself in a nearby river.

Special Abilities & Skills

Thanks to her Mad Enhancement, Kiyohime can tell when you’re lying to her and if you do you’ll lose a Command Seal. She also possesses the power of Stalking, pursuing the object of her affection with obsessive devotion, as well as Flame Colored Kiss in which she is willing to do anything and everything to become one with her Master. Of course, she can also Shapeshift to become a dragon through the power of her rage alone.

Noble Phantasm

Samadhi Through Transforming Flames: Anti-Unit (Self) class. Samadhi Through Transforming Flames allows Kiyohime to transform into a dragon just as in the original legend. As a dragon she is able to spit fire to a minimum range of 10 towards a direct single attack target.

Appearance

Dressing in traditional kimono, Kiyohime is usually to be found carrying a fan and also has a pair of horns protruding from her head.

Personality

Kiyohime lives only for love and cares for nothing else. She believes her Master is the reincarnation of Anchin and will do anything she can to win his affection. However, she does not appreciate being lied to and will extract a Command Seal if she catches you out. She will also obsessively target and defeat any potential love rivals but is generally cheerful and a good cook!

Alternate Versions

Lancer: summoned as a Lancer class Servant, Kiyohime carries a naginata spear instead of her fan but is less than skilled in using it. She also comes dressed in a swimsuit which causes her some embarrassment having been born in feudal Japan where such scandalously revealing outfits were unheard of.
