Overview

Today's Menu for Emiya Family is a slice-of-life parody manga set in the world of Fate/stay night written and illustrated by TAa. The series is published by Kadokawa Shoten in Japan and by Denpa in North America. The series has also received an anime adaptation by Ufotable that ran for 13 episodes in Japan from Jan. 25, 2018 to Jan. 1, 2019.

Plot

Set in an alternate universe in which the events of the Fifth Holy Grail War played out differently, Today's Menu for Emiya Family takes place in Fuyuki City and follows Shirou and other characters from the war who survived as they go about their peaceful everyday lives. The series centers on the many different Japanese-inspired meals Shirou prepares for his family and friends.

Development

Today's Menu for Emiya Family began serialization on the Young Ace Up website on Jan. 26, 2016. The manga has been published in collected tankobon volumes by Kadokawa Shoten in Japan, and the fifth volume will be released in February 2020. The manga has also been licensed for North America and is published by Denpa. The fourth English volume will be released in April 2020.

Centered around the Japanese cuisine Shirou makes for his family and friends, the manga features ingredient lists and recipes for each meal that are supervised by Makoto Tadano.

Characters

Shirou Emiya (Voiced by: Noriaki Sugiyama)
A high school student and apprentice mage, Shirou enjoys cooking a wide range of seasonal meals for his family and friends.

Saber (Voiced by: Ayako Kawasumi)
Shirou’s Servant, Saber is loyal and kind. Her true identity is King Arthur from Arthurian legend.

Rin Tohsaka (Voiced by: Kana Ueda)
Rin comes from a long line of accomplished mages and is a powerful magi herself. She is headstrong and confident but cares for those around her and goes out of her way to help them.

Illyasviel von Einzbern (Voiced by: Mai Kadowaki)
A young girl who lives in a castle outside the city, Illyasviel has a cheerful and bright personality and comes from the distinguished Einzbern family of mages. She goes by the nickname Illya.

Taiga Fujimura (Voiced by: Miki Ito)
Shirou’s homeroom teacher, Taiga is vivacious, bubbly, and loves to eat. She is Shirou’s legal guardian and often checks in on him.

Sakura Matou (Voiced by: Noriko Shitaya)
Shirou’s childhood friend, Sakura is a soft-spoken and kind girl. She helps Shirou with his housework.

Shinji Matou (Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya)
Sakura’s older brother and Shirou’s classmate and friend, Shinji is the vice-captain of the archery club at Homurahara Academy and is a bit of a womanizer.

Issei Ryudou (Voiced by: Mitsuaki Madono)
Shirou’s friend and classmate, Issei lives at Ryudou Temple and is the student council president at Homurahara Academy.

Ayako Mitsuzuri (Voiced by: Fumie Mizusawa)
Shirou’s classmate, Ayako is the captain of the archery club at Homurahara Academy.

Kiritsugu Emiya (Voiced by: Rikiya Koyama)
Shirou’s adoptive father.

Souichirou Kuzuki (Voiced by: Masaki Terasoma)
A teacher at Homurahara Academy, he lives for free at Ryudou Temple along with Caster.

Lancer (Voiced by: Nobutoshi Canna)
A Lancer-class Servant, his true identity is Cu Chulainn from Irish mythology. He has a part-time job in the city and enjoys alcohol.

Rider (Voiced by: Yuu Asakawa)
A Rider-class Servant, her true identity is Medusa from Greek mythology. She is usually always near Sakura.

Assassin (Voiced by: Shinichiro Miki)
An Assassin-class Servant, his true identity is Sasaki Kojirou, a mythical Japanese swordsman. Due to certain circumstances, he is always at the Ryudou Temple gate.

Archer (Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe)
An Archer-class Servant, his true identity is Shirou Emiya from an alternate timeline in which Shiro became a Heroic Spirit. He specializes in all housework.

Caster (Voiced by: Atsuko Tanaka)
A Caster-class Servant, her true identity is Medea, a witch from Greek mythology. She is learning how to cook for Kuzuki.

Other Media

Anime
The series has received an original net animation adaptation that premiered during the "Fate Project New Year's Eve TV Special" on Dec. 31, 2017. The anime began streaming in Japan the following year on Feb. 1, 2018 with one new 13-minute episode released each month. The anime is directed by Takahiro Miura and Tetsuto Sato, produced by Hikaru Kondo, written by Ufotable, and features character designs by Toko Uchimura and music by Go Shiina. The opening theme song is "Apron Boy" by DJ Misoshiru & MC Gohan, and the ending theme song is "Collage" by Sangatsu no Phantasia. The anime has also been licensed in North America by Aniplex of America and is available to stream on Crunchyroll. The anime ran for 13 episodes total.

Video Game
A video game adaptation of the series titled Every Day♪ Today's Menu for Emiya Family was announced on Dec. 31, 2019 during the Fate Project 2019 event. The game is set to be released in spring 2020 in Japan on the Nintendo Switch. The adventure platformer is being developed by Aniplex.
