Servants

Saber: Saber’s Master is Kiritsugu Emiya who she disagrees with often. She is also known as Artoria Pendragon, the King of Knights, and King Arthur. She is fighting to obtain the Holy Grail so she can rewrite the past to save her kingdom Britain.
Archer: Archer’s Master is first Tokiomi Tohsaka but later on Kirei Kotomine takes his place. He is also known as Gilgamesh and the King of Heroes. He sees the Holy Grail as a treasure that already belongs to him and is only participating in the Holy Grail War for his amusement and to keep the other Servants, all who he looks down upon, from stealing what he already deems is his treasure.
Lancer: Lancer’s Master is Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald. He is also known as Diarmuid Ua Dubhne. There isn’t anything that he wants the Holy Grail to grant, but cares only for being knightley by serving his Master. Later in the series when Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald becomes injured he is given another somewhat related reason to fight which is to restore his health.
Rider: Rider’s Master is the young Waver Velvet. He is also known as Iskander, Alexander the Great, and King of Conquerors. How he thinks a king should behave is vastly different than Saber and they but head’s on this topic. He is fighting in the Holy Grail War to begin reincarnation into the modern world.
Caster: Caster’s Master is the serial killer Ryuunosuke Uryuu. He is also known as Bluebeard and Gilles de Rais. He is a sociopath that greatly enjoys murdering, especially children. He hopes that women he is obsessed with, Jeanne d'Arc will be resurrected by the Holy Grail. He confuses Saber with Jeanne d’Arc because of their similar appearance.
Berserker (Lancelot du Lac/previously the Black Knight): Berserker’s Master is Kariya Emiya. He is also known as Lancelot du Lac or previously the Black Knight. Having done wrong against Saber by having an affair with King Arthur’s wife, he was seeking punishment from Saber to atton for his wrongdoings and be at peace.
Assassin: Assassin’s Master is Kirei Kotomine. His personality was split into multiple beings and his wish is for them all to come back to him so he can be whole again.

Main Human Characters

Kiritsugu Emiya: Kiritsugu Emiya specialized in killing mages for hire. There is no weapon or strategy he will not employ. His line of work has caused him to lose everyone that he loves. He wants the Holy Grail to grant his wish of World Peace. His wife is Irisviel von Einzbern. He has a daughter with her named Illyasviel von Einzbern.
Irisviel von Einzbern: Irisviel Von Einzbern’ husband is Kiritsugu Emiya and her daughter is Illyasviel von Einzbern. She is not human, but instead a creation of the Einzbern family called a homunculus. She takes on a humanoid shape and has a consciousness that helps her defend herself, but she is actually the Grail Vessel. She has led a very sheltered life in an effort to keep her safe.
Kirei Kotomine: Kirei Kotomine’s father is Reise Kotomine - the overseer of the Fourth Holy Grail War and a priest in the Church. He follows all of his father’s orders and didn’t think he himself had a wish. Archer eventually perks his interest in understanding what he truly does want, and his wish becomes the Holy Grail revealing that to him. He has a preoccupation with Kiritsugu Emiya.
Tokiomi Tohsaka: Tokiomi Tohsaka is the head of the Tohsaka family. He is a skilled mage in battle who utilizes gem and fire magecraft. His wish is to use the grail to get to the Root of Akasha.
Aoi Tohsaka: She is the wife of Tokiomi Tohsaka and mother of Rin Tohsaka and Sakura Matou. Aoi Tohsaka is married to Tokiomi Tohsaka. Her daughter is Rin Tohsaka. She also has another daughter named Sakura Matou who she allowed to be adopted by the Matou family at the recommendation of her husband who wanted her to be trained as a mage by them.
Waver Velvet: Waver Velvet is a young student of the Clock Tower. He doesn’t come from a strong or long line of mages. He is only the third generation so he doesn’t get much respect. His wish is for the Mage’s Association to acknowledge his genius. Despite this he is often afraid and has insecurities, but his Servant Rider helps build up his confidence over the season.
Maiya Hisau: Maiya Hisau is Kiritsugu Emiya’s assistant. She always has a serious personality and follows all his orders. She doesn’t do anything for herself and why is revealed when she shares with Irisviel von Einzbern her mysterious past.
Kariya Matou: Kariya Matou cares deeply for Aoi Tohsaka and her daughters Sakura Matou and Rin Tohsaka. He makes a deal with his father Zouken Matou to endure the brutal (likely fatal) training required for him to enter the 4th Holy Grail War in return for Sakura Matou being able to return to her family and lead a normal life.
Ryuunosuke Uryuu: Ryuunosuke Uryuu is a serial killer who is always looking for more exciting ways to kill people. He doesn’t have a wish for the Holy Grail but rather wishes to continue the fun he is having with Caster as they level up there murdering ways.
Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald: Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald is a Clock Tower professor and member of the Mage Association. He is participating to further the respect he has from his peers.
Sola-Ui Nuada-Re Sophia-Ri: Sola-Ui Nuada-Re Sophia is married to Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald.
Risei Kotomine: Risei Kotomine’s son is Kirei Kotomine. He is a church priest and supervising the 4th Holy Grail War but is also working with Tokiomi Tohasaka and Kirei Kotomine to ensure the Holy Grail will be claimed by Kirei Kotomine for the church.

Minor Human Characters

Rin Tohsaka: Rin Tohsaka’s father is Tokiomi Tohsaka and her mother is Aoi Tohsaka. She is being taught gem magecraft by her father.
Sakura Matou: Sakura Matou’s father is Tokiomi Tohsaka and her mother is Aoi Tohsaka however they gave her up to be adopted by the Matou family show she would become a powerful mage under the training of Zouken Matou.
Illyasviel von Einzbern: Illyasviel von Einzbern’s father is Kiritsugu Emiya and mother is Irisviel von Einzbern
Jubstacheit von Einzbern: Head of the Einzbern family and Illyasviel von Einzbern’s grandfather.
Zouken Matou: Head of the Matou family. He is a ruthlessly cruel mage and is mercilessly training Sakura Matou. His son is Kariya Matou.
Glen and Martha Mackenzie: Waver Velvet cast a spell on this couple so that they would think they are his grandparents. They let him and Rider stay ineir home.
Norikata Emiya: Kiritsugu Emiya’s father who was researching Dead Apostles.
Shirley: Kiritsugu Emiya’s childhood friend.
Natalia Kaminiski: She raised up Kiritsugu Emiya and taught him her ways of a freelance hitman.
Shirou Emiya: Kiritsugu Emiya’s adopted son.
