A Look at Ishtar (Fate) Figures

Ishtar, the Goddess of Venus, the Mistress of Heaven, demands your worship! No, this is not Rin Tohsaka dressed up in a Halloween costume, but it is Rin possessed in Fate/Grand Order, and we assure you that’s not as confusing as it sounds.

To give it a little background about this character - in legend, Ishtar is the ancient Mesopotamian goddess of the harvest, war, lust, discord, beauty, and fertility. That is one impressive list. You’d think she’d be extremely busy and hardworking being the goddess of so many giant abstract concepts. But surprisingly, she has plenty of time to play around, at least in the Nasuverse. She’s a free spirit, a wild card, and to Gilgamesh, a nuisance. She’s down to hook up with tons of folks, both human and divine. So when someone like Gilgamesh rejects her, get ready to see her seriously triggered. Don’t worry, though! She can be spoiled but she’s not all that terrible. As we said, she’s Rin possessed, so there’s a little bit of humanity within her. And lucky for us, Rin’s virtue of patience actually rubs off on her. Besides that fact, there’s more about Ishtar to love. For one thing, her character design is absolutely gorgeous. And when she is placed riding her bow, Maana, the picture is complete. Ishtar’s illustrator, Shidzuki Morii, carefully thought about how her Noble Phantasm would look, much to our appreciation when it comes to Ishtar as a figure that we get to add to our collections! So let’s take a moment to swoon over a few Ishtar collectibles. Hopefully, with the success of Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia which has just started its first season at the time of this article, we can expect even more Ishtar figures to pop up. Until then, let’s take a look back at what’s already been offered on TOM’s Shop!

Fate/Grand Order Archer/Ishtar 1/7 Scale Figure
Let’s start off with this absolute gem of a figure from Aniplex originally released in the last part of 2018. It was sculpted by Design Coco, based off of Ishtar’s card illustration in the game, Fate/Grand Order. It’s one thing to see the close-up of Ishtar pictured in the card when you play, and another thing entirely when you get to admire every angle of her in 1/7th scale. She’s presented with a confident look in her eyes that only a goddess can have in battle. Then again, the massive, ostentatious weapon by her side kind of presses that point across. You’re not just in the presence of any ol’ god - you’re in the presence of the goddess of war and beauty. So don’t let that lithe, slender body fool you - she has serious Hulk level strength at her disposal. From the angle of her body, Maana, and the flow of her hair upward, you get the impression that she’s descending from high up in the air about to make landfall, in a big way. Hopefully you wouldn’t be so awestruck that you forget to dodge that landing. But if this goddess were to crush you beneath her feet, what a great way to go, right?! We love every aspect of Maana, too. For example, the way the gold lines curve all over it. How dynamic the gold is against the glossy blue paint. And a giant bow needs a giant arrow - it’s so big, it looks like a sword in Ishtar’s hand! Now, the downside - a few people who own the figure have commented that parts of it are just too heavy to be appropriately supported by the stand. Hopefully, if this beauty is ever reproduced, they’ll take that feedback into consideration and give her the support beams that Ishtar demands!

4 Inch Nel Fate/Grand Order Archer/Ishtar
We know that figmas usually dominate the articulated anime figure market, but in this case, Sentinel’s 4 Inch Nel line knocked it out the park with an amazing Ishtar figure! As the brand name would have you believe, Ishtar stands at about 4” to 5” tall, which makes the detail they packed into her that much more impressive. Just like in the previous figure, this Ishtar comes with the bow, Maana, and it’s much larger than Ishtar herself. But each section of Maana is made to look airborn with its own dedicated support beams (that no one is complaining about). And those supports are also articulated. With the support that lifts up Ishtar combined, you can create countless poses and angles for the entire figure. You can make it look like Ishtar is riding on top of her bow, shooting it like a boss, aiming it horizontally - heck, you can have it look like she’s holding it one-handed to smash it over another figure’s head! The possibilities are endless!

Nendoroid Fate/Grand Order Archer/Ishtar
Last but not least is the cutest figure we’ve discussed in this article, by far. That’s right, it’s lil’ Nendo Ishtar! We can imagine a widdle itty bitty squeaky voice coming out of her demanding Gilgamesh to marry her! While Maana is still larger than Ishtar, it’s been scaled down quite a bit. What this figure has that the others lack are multiple face expressions that capture her very emotional nature. There’s plenty of lovely blush to her cheeks in at least two of those face plates. Another awesome feature is a part that makes it look like we’ve frozen time right as Ishtar is firing her bow at super speed!
