Mage's Association - Fate

What is the Mage’s Association?

The Mage’s Association is a collection of magi (those who practice Magecraft AKA Thaumaturgy) who aim as an association to keep Magecraft secret from outsiders as well as research it for an increase in its understanding for those within the association. Members can benefit greatly from being a part of the association. The Clock Tower, Atlas Temple, and Wandering Sea are the three sections of the Mage’s Association. The association has several enemies which they maintain the necessary means to defend against including other mage associations, the Holy Church, and people or even supernatural beings who deem what they are doing needs to be put to an end. And also within the Mage Association there are many power struggles and disagreements which lend it to disharmony.

Clock Tower

The Clock Tower is the headquarters and main branch of the Mage’s Association. Most of its workshops are underground, but otherwise it is mostly located inside the British museum. It houses many sealing designated mages in the “Bottom of the Bridge” as they are considered too dangerous to be let out. The Clock Tower is divided based on faculty and department which are divided into 12 domains of mysticism. There are several minor classes and five major ones. Everything is protected so students just look like they are attending a normal university to onlookers and so that passersby will not wander in.

Atlas Temple

The Atlas Temple is also known as the Institute of Aggregation and Analysis, Titan’s Pit, Atlas Academy, and Atlas Institute. It’s origins date farther back than the Clock Tower. It specializes in alchemy and seeks to find the great truths of the universe through measurement and prediction. Their mantra is “Faster, Stronger, More Accurate.” Those that are a part of the Atlas Temple are geniuses. There are no rules other than whatever is made there cannot leave. Since they have their own agreements with the Holy Church, the Clock Tower doesn’t like them all that much. They also don’t like the Clock tower all that much once it became the main Branch of the Mage’s Association.

Wandering Sea

The Wandering Sea is also known as The Moving Tomb and Baldanders. Similar to the Atlas Temple, they predated the Clock Tower and are wary of it. It gets its name from being a mountain range that moves and is usually in the ocean somewhere. Magi throughout Europe that make up the Wandering Sea look down on modern magecraft. Institutions that make up the Mage’s Association include the Prague Association (researches traditional alchemy), Sponheim Abbey (works closely with the Clock Tower), and Thule Society (studies and keeps secret rune Magecraft).

What are Rankings and Colored Titles?

Rankings says how good a magus’ capabilities are while a colored title expresses the uniqueness of their craft.

About Sealing Designations

People who have Sealing Designations are not allowed to leave the Mage Association unlike typical members who can leave at any time. They are enforced by Sealing Designation Enforcers or simply Enforcers. Despite it being considered the greatest honor from the Clock Tower, having a Sealing Designation is not a good thing because magus with them are hunted down and then kept in the Clock Tower to be incarcerated so that the Block Tower can benefit from protecting their special thaumaturgical abilities. Most magus will try to flee from Enforcers trying to capture them. They can be designated as “Hermits” or “Philosophers.” The Clock Tower isn’t much worried about “Hermits” because they seclude themselves and pass on their knowledge usually only to a select one person, but Philosophers on the other hand are seen as dangerous because they care only about learning more even if it costs them harming or killing numerous people. They will also abandon all codes of conduct. These types of magus pose a threat to the Clock Tower by causing destruction they have to clean up in order for Magecraft to remain secret. Therefore they are more so pursued than Hermits. A notable such Magus is Borikata Emiya who was researching Dead Apostles and wiped out an entire town in the process.

Terms

Average One: Though the name makes this term seem kinda basic, it’s actually given to those that are highly valued by the Mage’s Association such as Rin Tohsaka because in order to be given it you need to be able to possess all the Five Great Elements as Elemental Affinities.
Spiritual Land: This type of land has strong leylines of mana which increase the power of Magecraft.
Second Owner: A second owner is someone who is given spiritual land by the Mage’s Association to oversea.
Wizard Marshal: A magus that is given military authority within the association.
Workshop: A place where magi work on their Magecraft. Bounded Fields are important to be set up first around them so that magical energy doesn’t leak out and reveal its presence.
