Berserker (Florence Nightingale) - Fate

Overview

Florence Nightingale is a Berserker-class Servant that appears in the mobile game, Fate/Grand Order. She has relatively few appearances in the Nasuverse so far, with her only other official appearance being in the gag manga, Type-Moon Academy Chibichuki!.

Background

The Berserker Servant whose True Name is Florence Nightingale is a character in the Nasuverse based on a historical person with the same name. In her life, Florence Nightingale came from a wealthy family. Although she came from an upper-class background and lived amongst people in high society during her youth, she aspired to become a registered nurse. Nursing was considered a lowly profession at the time her mother and older sister were strongly against this decision by Florence. However, she persevered and studied in Germany to learn the most advanced techniques in the medical field that were known in the 18th century. After this, she helped make reforms for nurses as the superintendent of a nursing clinic in London. She was willing to use her own personal funds to make improvements to facilities and upgrade them to modern standards where she could. She later took a job to be a Nurse Manager at the British Empire’s Army Hospital in the Crimean War. The medical care conditions on the battlefield were deplorable. She again used her own personal financial resources to reform areas of sanitation and hygiene within the wartime medical facilities, greatly decreasing the mortality rate. Her hard work saved many lives. Her work earned her the name “Angel of Crimea” amongst soldiers. After the war, she continued to work towards improvements in health care, pushing for research and analysis of medical records to advance medical science.

What are Nightingale’s aliases in the Fate series?

Florence Nightingale has several aliases, most notably she is known as the “Angel of Crimea.” She is also called the “Little War Office,” the “Lady and the Lamp,” and the “White Cloth of Steel.” She is called “Mercédès” by Edmond Dantes.

Appearance

Florence Nightingale is dressed in a red soldier’s uniform. She has a white strap that runs diagonally down her chest and attaches to a white belt. She wears a black skirt, white boots, and white gloves. Her long hair is tied up in a braid. By her third Ascension, her base outfit is mostly the same, but she carries several medical treatment packets on her person. A black coat hangs from her shoulders. She wears a bandage over her right eye that goes around her head. An alternative look for her that’s very popular is her Halloween outfit, in which her hair is pink and she wears a sexy black latex nurse’s outfit with neon pink and green accents that greatly exposes her body and much of her breasts.

Personality

Berserker (Nightingale) likes cleanliness, good hygiene, and proper medical treatment. She is fixated with the treatment of those wounded. She hates unsanitary conditions. She also disapproves of her patients overexerting themselves as it increases the risk of undoing the treatment she facilitates. Even if her Master calls her an angel or soldiers consider her the “Angel of Crimea,” she does not lord over that title or reputation. It amuses her a bit, but that is all. She does not rest on her laurels. The relationship of Master and Servant is not something she concerns herself with too much.

Abilities

In a Youtube video by G&A Reviews and Silver Oni, Nightingale has been described as a “glass cannon.” Although she has powerful supportive skills like Cry of the Angel and Human Anatomy Understanding, she can not handle much damage from an enemy before being knocked out. She also does not dole out much damage to the enemy. Her Noble Phantasm in Nightingale Pledge. When she activates it, the Goddess of White Cloth of Steel appears and swings down a giant sword. It heals the status of her allies and negates the damage of the enemy’s Noble Phantasm.

Role

In Fate/Grand Order, she appears in the Singularity, E Pluribus Unum: The Grand Battle of Legends in North America. Mash Kyrielight and Ritsuka Fujimura meet her and ask for her help. However, she does not want to at first, believing that treating wounded soldiers in the battle is more important. Once she believes that destroying the Singularity will heal everyone’s wounds, she agrees to help.

Her role as a Berserker Servant with EX Madness makes her motivations paradoxical as she is willing to kill people in order to save them.
