Kiritsugu Emiya - Fate

What series is Kiritsugu Emiya in?

Kiritsugu Emiya appears in All Around Type-Moon, Carnival Phantasm, Chibichuki!, Fate/stay night, Fate/tiger colosseum / Upper, Fate/Zero, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, and Today's Menu for Emiya Family.

Background

Kiritsugu’s life is filled with tragedy. As a child, he lost his childhood friend because she drank a liquid that his father Norikata Emiya was using in his research and it turned her into a blood crazed vampire who infected more people on the island they resided on until the entire place was destroyed and burned down. Kiritsugu and Shirley had been under the impression that his father was researching the ability to keep people from ageing and dying or even bringing people back to life, but Kiritsugu learns that he was actually researching Dead Apostles in the hopes of becoming one so he could continue his research on Magecraft. Kiritsugu, disgusted with his father’s lack of empathy and recklessness for his own ends as well as determined to not allow it to happen again, killed his father.

Norikata Emiya was also on the scene during all this and she explained Dead Apostles to him as well as the different associations there to clean up the island. They left the island together and she ended up mothering him as best she could as a hitman while also training him in her murderous craft. Together they took down several corrupt mages until one plan went awry and Kiritsugu felt he had no other option than the one that resulted in her death.

Appearance

Kiritsugu has shaggy black hair and dark, narrow eyes. He is fair skinned and slim. He often looks serious, cold, and calculating. He dresses in an all black outfit which includes a suit, tie, and trench coat. As a child he had big bright eyes and tanned skin from playing on the beach under the sun of the island he once resided. The carefree expressions he showed as a child were essentially wiped out through painful experiences. His face does sometimes show tenderness toward those he cares about. He is often seen smoking.

Personality

Kiritsugu is serious and calculated. He lived believing killing hundreds if it would save thousands was OK. His heart was hardened and cold from his tragedy-filled past. However, this changes with the final outcome of the Fourth Holy Grail War and his rescuing of Shirou Emiya.

Abilities

He specialized in killing mages which has earned him the nickname “Magus Killer.” He is only average at magic, but excels with strategy and weaponry which he utilizes to his fullest ability with no tactic or weapon to ruthless.

Death**
Kiritsugu Emiya died at 34 years old five years after the Fourth Holy Grail War. His passing was peaceful and occurred shortly after he was relaxing at night while looking at the moon and commenting on how beautiful it was. The last thoughts he had was of Shirley again asking him what he wanted to become when he grew up to which he responded saying “I’ll never forget what I felt today. I want to be a hero of justice!”
