Synopsis
It’s not the destination that matters, it’s the journey. Well, at least for this traveling witch. Elaina is a free-spirited witch who travels the world seeking nothing more than stories to tell. A leaf on the wind, she goes wherever the breeze takes her, meeting new people and finding adventures along the way in this slice-of-life fantasy manga by Ikki Nanao based on the original light novels by Jougi Shiraishi and Azure.
Background
Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina began as a light novel series written by Jougi Shiraishi and illustrated by Azure that has been published by SB Creative under their GA Novel label since April 2016. The series has been adapted into a manga illustrated by Itsuki Nanao that has been serialized on Square Enix's online manga magazine Manga UP! since November 2018.
An anime adaptation was announced during the "GA Fes 2019" live event in October 2019. It is being produced by C2C and features Toshiyuki Kubooka (Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I - The Egg of the King, Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket) as director, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Ben-To, By the Grace of the Gods, Dropkick on My Devil!) as series composer, Takeshi Oda (A Certain Scientific Railgun, Oneechan ga Kita) as character designer, and AstroNoteS (High School DxD Hero) as music composer. It premiered in Japan on Oct. 2, 2020 on Tokyo MX and ATX. It will run for 12 episodes and is available to stream in North America and the British Isles through Funimation.
Characters
Elaina (Voiced by: Kaede Hondo)
Elaina is a witch girl who freely travels the world after reading about the adventures of the witch Niké. Although young, she is familiar with all kinds of magic. She has a calm personality but is very inquisitive and curious.
Fran (Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa)
Fran is a witch with a mysterious aura. At first glance, she seems unreliable but her magical ability is top tier. She is Elaina’s master who cares for her and watches over her warmly.
Saya (Voiced by: Tomoyo Kurosawa)
Saya is an apprentice witch girl from a country far to the east. She is bubbly, energetic, and can be a bit reckless. She encounters Elaina during her trip and becomes enamored with her.
Sheila (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)
Sheila is a talented agent belonging to the Magic Control Association. She is a heavy smoker who is blunt and strong-minded.
