Synopsis

Konomi Kasahara is a first-year high school student and master of puzzles who has just enrolled at Hanamiya Girls' High School. While looking for a club to join, her life changes when she discovers the world of competitive climbing and becomes a member of the Climbing Club.

Background

Iwa-Kakeru! -Sport Climbing Girls- began as a sports manga by Ryudai Ishizaka which was serialized online via Cygames' Cycomi manga app and website from December 2017 to May 2019. The anime adaptation was announced in April 2020. It is being directed by Tetsuro Amino with series composition by Touko Machida, character designs by Yoshihiro Watanabe, music by Tsubasa Ito, and animation production by Blade. It premiered in Japan on Oct. 2 as part of the "ANiMAZiNG!!!" programming block on ABC. It is being streamed internationally through Crunchyroll.

Characters

Konomi Kasahara (Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka)
A first-year student at Hanamiya Girls’ High School, Konomi is a genius when it comes to puzzles. She enters the world of competitive climbing after entering high school and though she’s a beginner she has a natural ability to see the correct moves. She has tremendous concentration once she becomes absorbed in something.

Jun Uehara (Voiced by: Yui Ishikawa)
A first-year student at Hanamiya Girls’ High School, Jun has been climbing since a young age. Her agility and quickness has gained her the nickname “The Speedster of Hanamiya.” She has a stoic personality and isn’t good at socializing so she tends to keep a distance from those around her.

Sayo Yotsuba (Voiced by: Aina Suzuki)
A second-year student at Hanamiya Girls’ High School, Sayo is the captain of the climbing team. Due to her skill she is known as one of the “Three Climbing Princesses” of the high school competitive climbing world.

Nonoka Sugiura (Voiced by: Miyu Tomita)
A second-year student at Hanamiya Girls’ High School, Nonoka is Sayo’s friend and a member of the climbing team. She has an innocent personality and tends to fret about her short height. She is seen as the team’s mascot.

Chinari Iwamine (Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu)
A second-year student at Kurigawa High School, Chinari is feared as the “Climbing Spider” and one of the “Three Climbing Princesses” holding national recognition for her skills. She enjoys collecting cute things and people-watching.

Chigusa Kumagai (Voiced by: Sachi Kokuryu)
A second-year student at Kurigawa High School, Chigusa has a muscular build that she is quite proud of and believes that power and strength can help someone overcome any obstacle.

Maruno Sato (Voiced by: Yumiri Hanamori)
A first-year student at Kurigawa High School, Maruno is a “Data Climber” who collects and analyzes data from past competitions to prepare her team for upcoming ones.

Masumi Fujita (Voiced by: Chihiro Ueda)
A second-year student at St. Catarno Girls, Masumi earned the nickname “Black Panther” due to her wild climbing style that makes use of her physical strength. She is one of the “Three Climbing Princesses” and is loved by her teammates.

Rina Samura (Voiced by: Daria Midou)
A second-year student at St. Catarno Girls, Rina has the nickname “Crimson Special Attack Squad Leader” due to her passionate climbing style. She makes a good pair with Masumi and she supports her as a reliable friend. She cares for those around her.

Kurea Oba (Voiced by: Machico)
A first-year student at St. Catarno Girls, Kurea has an outstanding sense of balance from her time in ballet. She is known as the “Ballerina on the Wall” due to her elegant and light way of climbing. She hates to lose.

Anne Kurusu (Voiced by: Yukari Tamura)
A first-year student at National High School, Anne is an idol of the climbing world with world-class skills. She has abundant experience as a climber. Her catchphrase is “Kurukurusu~ ☆”

Hifumi Benibana (Voiced by: Carin Isobe)
A first-year student at National High School, Hifumi is a devoted fan of Anne.

Kaoru Niijima (Voiced by: Yuka Terasaki)
A second-year student at Matsubase High School, Kaoru has a calm nature and indomitable spirit. She doesn’t give up no matter how hard things get or how many times she falls.

Akane Uchimura (Voiced by: Akane Fujita)
A first-year student at Matsubase High School, Akane has a friendly demeanor but is known as the “Rookie Killer.” She has a habit of saying “Nya.” She seems to be acquaintances with Jun.

Juzo Goto (Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu)
Juzo is a climbing specialist who holds several records. He has a muscular build and a friendly personality. He coaches the Hanamiya girls.

Kikuko Goto (Voiced by: Sayaka Harada)
Juzo’s daughter, Kikuko has been climbing since she was young, giving her considerable abilities for a junior high student. She is quite shy.

Asuka Fujimura (Voiced by: Ami Koshimizu)
Asuka is a competitive climber who works at a climbing shop and provides commentary at competitions. She is passionate about climbing shoes and has an innate ability to pair someone with the best possible shoe for them, though some think it’s nothing more than a foot fetish.
