Synopsis

The boys of the Karasuno High Volleyball Team have cemented their spot in the Spring Tournament after their success at the regionals, but with special training camps on the way things are about to heat up even more. When Tsukishima is selected for a special camp for the best first-year players but Hinata isn’t, he’ll do whatever he can to make them acknowledge him, even if he has to sneak into the camp to do it.

Background

Haikyu!! began as a Japanese shonen manga written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate which was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from February 2012 to July 2020. There has also been a radio drama, anime films (Haikyu!! the Movie: Endings and Beginnings, Haikyu!! the Movie: Winners and Losers, Haikyu!! Genius and Sense, Haikyu!! Battle of Concepts), a video game (Haikyu!! Tsunage! Itadaki no Keshiki), and a series of stage plays (Hyper Projection Engeki: Haikyu!!).

Haikyu!! To the Top is the fourth season of the Haikyu!! anime. It is once again being produced by Production I.G with Masako Sato as director, Taku Kishimoto as series composer, Takahiro Kishida as character designer, and Asami Tachibana and Yuki Hayashi composing the music. The first half of the season was broadcast from January to April 2020 with the second half being set to premiere in July, but this was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Episode 14 officially premiered in Japan on Oct. 2 on MBS, TBS, and BS-TBS as part of the "Animeism" programming block. It will run for 12 episodes.

Characters

Shoyo Hinata (Voiced by: Ayumu Murase (Japanese); Bryson Baugus (English))
Shoyo Hinata is one of the volleyball team’s middle blockers. He makes up for his lack of height by specializing in jumping. He has a lively, friendly personality, but can be quite serious when it comes to volleyball. He does not do very well at his schoolwork because he focuses more on the volleyball team.

Tobio Kageyama (Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa (Japanese); Scott Gibbs (English))
Tobio Kageyama is the volleyball team’s regular setter. Other players and coaches regard him as a genius when it comes to volleyball. He is a perfectionist with a melancholic, grumpy personality.

Daichi Sawamura (Voiced by: Satoshi Hino (Japanese); Justin Doran (English))
Daichi Sawamura is the volleyball team’s captain. He is very caring, responsible, and patient, but also can be strict when players are out of line.

Koshi Sugawara (Voiced by: Miyu Irino (Japanese); Adam Gibbs (English))
Koshi Sugawara is a setter and the Vice Captain of the volleyball club. He is supportive, soothing, and gentle to his teammates. He believes in never giving up.

Ryunosuke Tanaka (Voiced by: Yu Hayashi (Japanese); Greg Cote (English))
Ryunosuke Tanaka is the wing spiker and up-and-coming ace of the volleyball club. He has a hot temper and has been known to pick fights. He tends to be tardy to practice and not good at his school work. He still makes a great teammate though and is supportive of his teammates.

Asahi Azumane (Voiced by: Yoshimasa Hosoya (Japanese); Orlanders Jones (English))
Asahi Azumane is the wing spiker and ace of the volleyball club. He is quiet, gentle, and struggles with self-confidence. Some say he has a “glass heart” because he takes everything people say to him seriously and it can make him depressed.

Yu Nishinoya (Voiced by: Nobuhiko Okamoto (Japanese); Greg Ayres (English))
Yu Nishinoya “Karasuno’s Guardian Deity” is the libero for the volleyball team. He is very energetic, impatient, and temperamental. Despite his shenanigans he is considerate of his friends’ feelings and insecurities.

Kei Tsukishima (Voiced by: Koki Uchiyama (Japanese); Leraldo Anzaldua (English))
Kei Tsukishima is the middle clocker in the volleyball club.

Chikara Ennoshita (Voiced by: Toshiki Masuda (Japanese); Adam Noble (English))
Chikara Ennoshita is one of the volleyball team’s wing spikers. He is quiet and reserved.

Kiyoko Shimizu (Voiced by: Kaori Nazuka (Japanese); Rebekah Stevens (English))
Kiyoko Shimizu is one of the managers of the volleyball club. She is very beautiful, serious, and passionate.

Hitoka Yachi (Voiced by: Sumire Morohoshi (Japanese); Brittney Karbowski (English))
Hitoka Yachi is one of the volleyball team’s managers. She is paranoid and thinks she is incapable at things. She is also clean and organized.

Ittetsu Takeda (Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya (Japanese); Gareth West (English))
Ittetsu Takeda is the faculty advisor of the volleyball club. He is optimistic and persistent.

Keishin Ukai (Voiced by: Hisao Egawa (Japanese); David Wald (English))
Keishin Ukai is the coach of the volleyball club. Though he can come off as lazy, he is very hardworking and competitive.

Suguru Daisho (Voiced by: Kazuyuki Okitsu)
Suguru Daisho is the captain of a rival volleyball team from Nohebi Academy. He mocks others but can’t handle taking it. He is manipulative and puts on a facade.

Atsumu Miya (Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano)
Atsumu Miya is a setter for a rival volleyball team from Inarizaki High School. He seems to be carefree and confident, but he is actually often condescending and selfish. He’s been known to lie habitually. He’s also a perfectionist.

Korai Hoshiumi (Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae)
Korai Hoshiumi is a wing spiker for a rival volleyball team from Kaomomedai High. He is a loud and proud person in games, but calm and collected out of them. He can become irritated quickly.
