Synopsis

Zenitendo is a mysterious candy shop that only lucky people can find. It is run by a woman named Beniko, who can recommend the perfect candy to cure each person’s troubles and worries. However, there’s something strange about the candy sold there and bad things may happen to those who don’t eat or use them correctly. But whether or not Beniko’s candies provide someone with happiness or bring misfortune is up to them!

Background

Fushigi Dagashiya Zenitendo is a children’s novel series written by Reiko Hiroshima with artwork by jyajya that has been published by Kaiseisha since 2013. The series was adapted into the animated film Fushigi Dagashiya Zenitendo: Tsuritai Yaki in 2020, and a TV anime adaptation has also been created. Produced by Toei Animation and Kanaban Graphics, it features Satoshi Tomioka as director, Yuji Kobayashi as series composer and scriptwriter, Satoshi Matsuda as music director, and Michiru and music composer. It premiered in Japan on Sep. 8 on NHK ETV.

Characters

Beniko (Voiced by: Nobue Iketani)
Beniko is the owner of Zenitendo. Her age is unknown. She has pure white hair that she ties in a bun and wears bright red lipstick. She wears a kimono with a coin pattern and is able to recommend the perfect candy to cure people of their troubles.

Sumimaru (Voiced by: Fukujuro Katayama)
Sumimaru is Beniko’s black cat. He is able to understand Beniko and is very clever and even guides customers to the shop.
