Synopsis

Makoto is a 20-year-old son of a fruit vendor living in crime-ridden Ikebukuro which is home to violent gangs and the yakuza. In order to protect his friends, he relies on his charisma to solve problems and disputes among the warring factions, often getting himself into dangerous situations against his better judgment. Along with his friends Shun, Masa, and Takashi, can he stop the rising tide of violence?

Background

Ikebukuro West Gate Park, often abbreviated IWGP, began as a series of urban mystery novels by Ira Ishida. The series has been adapted into a live-action TV drama series as well as several manga. The anime adaptation was first announced in December 2019. It is being directed by Tomoaki Koshida at Doga Kobo and features series composition by Fumihiko Shimo, character designs by Junichiro Taniguchi, and music by Daijiro Nakagawa and Ryuuichi Takada. The series was originally scheduled to premiere in July 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The anime will now premiere in Japan on Oct. 6 on AT-X and Tokyo MX. It will be streamed in North America by Funimation.

Characters

Makoto Majima (Voiced by: Kentaro Kumagai)
A 20-year-old hoodlum, Makoto is very charismatic and is often approached by others to help them solve their problems. His mother owns a fruit shop and he is often tasked with watching it for her.

Takashi "King" Ando (Voiced by: Kouki Uchiyama)
Takashi heads the Ikebukuro street gang G Boys. He is very charismatic with a cool personality and a penchant for cruelty toward his enemies. He was friends with Makoto during high school and often turns to him when he needs a problem solved.

Hiroto Ikeuchi (Voiced by: Subaru Kimura)
The No. 2 of the G Boys. Due to his large build he is the best fighter of the group. He also works as Takashi’s driver.

Kyoichi Ozaki (Voiced by: Reio Tsuchida)
Kyoichi is the head of the Red Angels gang that recently appeared in Ikebukuro. Like Makoto, he has an overwhelming charisma that is gaining him more followers. He tries to avoid altercations with the G Boys, but tensions are still high between the two groups.

Isogai (Voiced by: Natsuki Hanae)
The No. 2 of the Red Angels. He has a friendly, sensitive nature and doesn’t look like someone who would belong to a gang. He admires Kyoichi and Makoto.

An excellent hacker.
