In celebration of the 10th anniversary of SEGA feat. HATSUNE MIKU Project, Sega announced a brand-new Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA title to be released on Nintendo Switch.

Summary

Titled, Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA MEGA 39's (pronounced as "mega thanks"), the single-player rhythm game will come with over 100 songs that showcases the 10-year history of the SEGA collaboration project.

There are two gameplay modes. The first one is played similarly to Hatsune Miku -Project DIVA- Arcade called "Arcade Mode" but also has a Switch-only optioned called "Mix Mode". "Arcade Mode" uses a gameplay layout familiar to fans of the series and has colored tiles based on the alphabet system of the JOY-CON (A-B-X-Y). The gameplay is similar to previous console versions of the game in that both the left or right side of the controller can be used to hit the target notes.

"Mix Mode" forces users to operate the Nintendo Switch's JOY-CONs. This mode is visually completely new to Project DIVA gamers. Players must rotate the colored JOY-CON to match the angle that the target note falls down. Additionally, once the target note hits the baseline, the player must also press the JOY-CON's shoulder button to hit the note accurately.
Arcade Mode currently has five difficulties: Easy, Normal, Hard, Extreme, Extra Extreme, while Mix Mode has Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties.

While showing the game in public for the first time, at Tokyo Game Show, users found Mix Mode to be extremely challenging yet incredibly fun even on the easier difficulties.

With a total of 101 songs, including songs that have been introduced to the series for the first time, the game hopes to show the colorful 10-year history behind the Sega collaboration. Its theme song is written by kz (livetune) and titled "Catch the Wave" which is also a playable song.
For those who own the PlayStation 4 version of "Hatsune Miku Project DIVA Future Tone/DX", Sega will be releasing a paid downloadable content (DLC) to be released in 2020.
Included in the songlist are such hit songs like World is Mine, ACUTE, Love Password, and Unhappy Refrain.

There will be over 300 Modules (the game-specific way of saying costumes), including Modules based on the songs but also designs created through the collaboration with creators who have uploaded their artwork to Piapro. Catch the Wave's Module is designed by LAM.

The game boasts to have completely remade 3D animations in its music videos which gives Miku and the other Vocaloids yet another style that fans will enjoy while playing to their favorite songs.

T-Shirt Edit is a mode completely new to the franchise and making its debut in "Hatsune Miku Project DIVA MEGA39's". In this mode, players will be able to edit T-shirts for Miku to wear into their favorite style by using the JOY-CON's buttons or the Nintendo Switch touch screen.

There will be a limited-edition package titled "Hatsune Miku Project DIVA MEGA38's 10th Anniversary Collection". The package will be fully illustrated by KEI and includes 5 audio CDs with a collection of the greatest songs in the game, and a link to download the game's theme song, "Catch the Wave" using the SONOCA card system.

There will also be a DLC-exclusive "Theme Song Pack" code as a pre-order bonus. Using the code will unlock The secret garden (artist: Kosaki Satoru), Kocchi Muite Baby (ryo), Sekiranun Graffiti (ryo), and Yume Yume (DECO*27). All four of these songs were used as theme songs in previous incarnations of the Project DIVA games.

Though further information is scarce, Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA MEGA 39's is scheduled to be released on February 13, 2020. The standard version will cost 5,990 yen while the limited-edition version will be 9,990 yen. The game is currently only in Japanese but an international version is planned.
