Synopsis

PriMagi is stage entertainment that combines singing, dancing, and fashion! But there is a secret to the stage that sparkles and shines like magic. Yup, it’s actually really magic! Main character Matsuri Hibino is a first-year junior high school student who admires PriMagi, and she dreams of one day performing as a PriMagista. That’s when Myamu suddenly appears and scouts her for PriMagi! Now, the two are determined to beat their rivals and make it to the top!

Background

Waccha PriMagi! is a mixed-media series that includes an arcade game and an upcoming TV anime. The arcade game is being developed by TAKARA TOMY A.R.T.S and syn Sophia and is scheduled to launch in Japan on Oct. 1, 2021. The series is the fourth in the Pretty franchise which began with Pretty Rhythm in 2010. The series is also being created in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the franchise’s first TV anime, Pretty Rhythm: Aurora Dream, which was broadcast from April 2011 to March 2012. Both the arcade game and anime were announced in June 2021 with the theme of “magic.”

The TV anime adaptation is a follow up to the Kiratto Pri☆Chan series. It is being jointly animated by Tatsunoko Production and Dongwoo Animation and features Chi Man Park as chief director, Junichi Sato as executive director, and Kosuke Kobayashi as director. Other staff include Fumi Tsubota as series composer, Sayaka Toda as character designer, and Hiromi Mizutani as music composer. Singer Anna Suzuki will perform the anime’s opening theme song, "Dreaming Sound." The anime will premiere in Japan on Oct. 3, 2021 on TV Tokyo and its affiliates. It will be available to stream in North America, the UK, and parts of Europe through HIDIVE beginning on Oct. 2.

Characters

Matsuri Hibino (Voiced by: Chinatsu Hirose)
A first-year junior high school student who loves PriMagi and festivals. She is a force to be reckoned with when she gets serious. She is scouted for PriMagi by Myamu, and together they aim to make it to the top.

Myamu (Voiced by: Riko Koike)
A magician who came from the magical world. She is an energetic troublemaker. She scouts Matsuri to join PriMagi, and together they aim to make it to the top.

Hina Yayoi (Voiced by: Aya Uchida)
A third-year junior high school student who attends a powerful school for PriMagi. She has a passionate and straightforward personality and is admired by her underclassmen.

Chimumu (Voiced by: Rie Hikisaka)
Hina’s magician partner. He usually acts proud for some reason and doesn’t get along with Myamu.

Lemon Kokoa (Voiced by: Anna Suzuki)
A second-year junior high school student who is shy and nervous. She is a PriMagi otaku and knows all about it.

Kyaron (Voiced by: Sunao Yoshikawa)
Lemon’s magician partner. He is polite, serious, and inflexible.

Amane Sumeragi (Voiced by: Umeka Shouji)
A third-year junior high school student who is looked up to by her underclassmen. Though usually stoic, that completely changes when it comes to PriMagi.

Patano (Voiced by: Konomi Kohara)
Amane’s magician partner. She is a country bumpkin and looks up to the stylish Amane.

Miruki Amauri (Voiced by: Mayu Sagara)
A strikingly cute second-year junior high school student. Her dream is to build her own museum dedicated to everything cute.

Hanitan (Voiced by: Yui Ogura)
Miruki’s magician partner. The world inside her zipper is a mystery.

Auru Omega (Voiced by: Minori Fujidera)
A girl who is knowledgeable about mechanics. Her true identity is a mystery, and it is unknown whether she is a PriMagista or something else.

Tanto-chan (Voiced by: Kanae Ito)
A fairy who helps in preparing for PriMagi performances, including costume changes and makeup. She gives lots of praise to the PriMagista.

Jennifer Sumire Sol (Voiced by: Saho Aono)
The previous winner of the PriMagi Grand Festival.

Terminology

PriMagi
A popular form of stage entertainment that blends singing, dancing, and fashion and features stage illusions described as magical that are, in fact, real magic. However, the fact that magic is used is only known among the magicians and PriMagista.

PriMagista
The term for the girls who perform live on the PriMagi stage. PriMagistas are human, but they must have a magician partner in order to be eligible to perform.

Magician
Residents of the magical world, which exists separate from the human world, who have been visiting the human world since long ago to scout those who have the potential to be PriMagista. Most of them take on animal-like forms, but there are some who can transform into humans, including Myamu.

PriMagi Cards
Two types of cards are used by the PriMagista when they go on stage: “Profile Cards,” which are used to manage their personal information, and “Coord Cards,” which contain their outfits. They can be used to change not only their outfit, but aspects of their appearance as well, including their hair color.

Illusions
Special techniques used during the climax of PriMagi performances that are powered by real magic. They are similar to “Making Drama” in PriPara and “Yattemita” in Kiratto Pri☆Chan.

Waccha!
The source of magic that is born from the sparkle of the human heart and the driving force behind Illusions.
