Synopsis

The residents of a seemingly ordinary town live peaceful and fulfilling lives. However, what they don’t know is that that peace is a lie and that the earth has already been destroyed. After 99.9% of the human race is exterminated in a sudden attack by a mysterious alien force known as the Draktor, humanity hid away in a shelter, waiting for the day when they could reclaim the earth. The inhabitants of the shelter Ixia have had their memories of the invasion erased and live normal lives. However, three teenagers are about to be chosen to become pilots of humanity’s ultimate weapon to fight back against the Draktor, a powerful combining robot called Musashi!

Background

Megaton Musashi is a mixed-media project by Level-5 that includes a TV anime and a video game. The game is an RPG being developed by Level-5 that will be released in Japan on Nov. 11, 2021 on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. A PS5 and iOS/Android versions of the game will be released at a later date.

The TV anime is being produced by OLM. Akihiro Hino, the president of Level-5, is in charge of the original concept and is also credited as chief director, series composer, and scriptwriter. The anime is being directed by Shigeharu Takahashi with Yuji Ikeda adapting Takuzo Nagano’s original character designs for animation, and Ken'ichiro Saigo and Shoya Sunagawa composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "MUSASHI" by Zuma. The anime will premiere in Japan on Oct. 1, 2021 on Tokyo MX and BS Fuji.

Characters

Yamato Ichidaiji (Voiced by: Toshiki Masuda)
A genius fighter who never loses. Deep down, he has a strong will and a strong sense of justice. His family was killed in an alien attack and he is bent on revenge. He is able to overcome any situation no matter how disadvantageous due to his exceptional creative thinking, which surprises those around him.

Teru Asami (Voiced by: Soma Saito)
An honor student with a keen mind. Though obedient to the rules, he is flexible enough to adapt to the situation. He excels in calmly analyzing pilots’ abilities and the situation on the battlefield, and has a high regard for Yamato’s ability to think outside the box. Commander Sayaka seems to hold a special place for him in her heart.

Ryugo Hijikata (Voiced by: Shunsuke Takeuchi)
Manly yet compassionate, he appears to be a delinquent at first glance, but at heart he is gentle and kind. He reflexively calls out for his mom whenever he gets scared. Although he sometimes shows a pathetic side, he is able to step up to the plate when the time comes.

Reiji Amemiya (Voiced by: Kouki Uchiyama)
A student who transfers into Yamato’s class. He is elusive and doesn’t talk much. Due to his pretty boy looks, he is popular among the girls in class. However, he also stands out due to his bizarre behavior and is seen as being weird. He is deeply traumatized and only opens up to cats.

Jun Kirishima (Voiced by: Sumire Morohoshi)
A cheerful and popular girl. She is sociable and can make friends with anyone. However, she has a secret side that she doesn’t show to others, and she is unforgiving to those who get in her way. She has good intuition and is trying to get to the bottom of the mystery of Akagi.

Momoka Saotome (Voiced by: Megumi Han)
Despite her small stature, she is fond of martial arts such as karate and judo. She has a prickly personality and is physically strong, but she can’t stand bullying and is deeply empathetic and caring. She doesn’t like to be flattered and is on bad terms with Jun.

Kota Akutagawa (Voiced by: Ayumu Murase)
A boy who stands out due to his huge afro. He is an easy target for bullies. Despite his appearance, he has a shy personality. He doesn’t fit in well with others and always seems to be lonely. He has a big secret that the other students don’t know about.

Takumi Kindaichi (Voiced by: Yuuki Kaji)
A mecha otaku who wears thick, jam-jar glasses. At his young age, his knowledge of mechanics is enough to even make experts jealous. He has a keen insight into the true nature of everything and is highly dependable. He is aware of the secrets of Akagi and sometimes sneaks into the hanger that houses Musashi.

Arshem Laia (Voiced by: Tomoyo Kurosawa)
An alien girl who wears a hoodie and is seen acting suspiciously in Akagi. She has received a secret order from the queen and is stalking Yamato.

Musashi
The ultimate weapon of humanity built in Ixia. As fitting its Megaton class, it is an almighty mecha that can be used in any type of battle.

Yuuka Nishino (Voiced by: Ayana Taketatsu)
Yamato’s classmate and member of the newspaper club.

Sayaka Minami (Voiced by: Mariya Ise)
The project leader for Plan M.
