Synopsis

The Atlantic Ocean, 18th century. While sailing with her father, Fena Houtman is attacked by pirates and escapes on a small boat. Suddenly finding herself an orphan, she drifts to an island called Shangri-La and is raised among male and female prostitutes in a bleak environment with no hope of escape. Ten years later, she has grown into a beautiful young woman with snow-white skin and hair that shines silvery white. She wants to escape the island and the bleak future that awaits her of being used up and thrown away but is in need of help. When that help arrives in the form of a young warrior named Yukimaru, a memory from her mysterious past is awakened when he tells her to “Go to Eden.” Determined to find out the true meaning of those words and the significance they seem to hold, she sets out with Yukimaru and others to solve the mysteries of Eden.

Background

Fena: Pirate Princess is an original TV anime being produced by Production I.G and co-produced by Crunchyroll and Adult Swim. The anime is being directed by ToyGerPROJECT, Junichi Fujisaki, Kazuto Nakazawa, and Tetsuya Takahashi and features scripts by Asako Kuboyama and music by Yuki Kajiura. Artist JUNNA sings the opening theme song, "Umi to Shinju," while Minori Suzuki sings the ending theme song, "Umi to Shinju." The anime premiered in North America in August 2021 on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block and is being distributed by Crunchyroll. It will premiere in Japan in October 2021 on Tokyo MX and other channels.

A web radio show titled “Radio Kaizoku Oujo - Seto x Suzuki no Sennai Housoukyoku” will also kick off on the web radio channel Cho!A&G+ in September 2021. The show will feature voice stars Asami Seto and Ryota Suzuki, who voice Fena and Yukimaru respectively.

Characters

Fena Houtman (Voiced by: Asami Seto)
Due to an incident 10 years ago, she was raised on an island of male and female prostitutes. She is nicknamed "White Marginal" due to her snow-white skin and silvery white hair. She has a positive and cheerful personality.

Yukimaru Sanada (Voiced by: Ryota Suzuki)
A young man from the Sanada family that has protected the Houtman family for generations. He is a skilled swordsman and saved Fena during an incident 10 years ago. Though he has a strong desire to protect Fena, he isn’t able to convey his emotions due to being a man of few words.

Shitan (Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai)
One of the elite samurai of the Sanada family. He uses a bow in battle. At first glance, he seems aloof, but he has strong feelings for his friends. He is handsome and popular with the ladies due to his good looks.

Karin (Voiced by: Aoi Yuki)
One of the elite samurai of the Sanada family. She uses a rifle in battle. She is a spirited and lively girl who grew up in a family of blacksmiths and becomes passionate when she starts talking about machinery.

Enju (Voiced by: Gen Sato)
One of the elite samurai of the Sanada family. He uses a spear and a wakizashi in battle. He is Kaede’s older twin brother. He has a friendly personality, but also has a mischievous side.

Kaede (Voiced by: Ryota Osaka)
One of the elite samurai of the Sanada family and Enju’s younger twin brother. Like his brother, he too uses a spear and a wakizashi in battle. He is also friendly and mischievous like his brother, but thinks he is more manly.

Tsubaki (Voiced by: Jun Oosuka)
One of the elite samurai of the Sanada family. He uses a short ninja sword in battle. He is the eldest of the bunch and is in charge of meals. He is also mature and has good common sense.

Makaba (Voiced by: Shintaro Tanaka)
One of the elite samurai of the Sanada family. He excels at close quarters combat and uses a knuckle duster in battle. He is the biggest and strongest of the group. He is mild-mannered and has a big heart.

Salman (Voiced by: Manabu Muraji)
One of the knights who served the Houtman family and knew Fena when she was a child. He was a master spearman when he was young and was feared as "Salman the Onslaught." Nowadays, his age is really beginning to show, and his teeth are missing.

Otto (Voiced by: Hiroaki Hirata)
One of the knights who served the Houtman family and knew Fena when she was a child. When he was young, he was known for his lightning-quick swordplay and was called "Otto the Blitz." Nowadays, he has a large belly and is no longer as agile as he once was.
