Synopsis

Set in the near future, a new technology has been developed, and rumors of a mysterious phenomenon called “hologram ghosts” are flying around all over social media. Hiro Amanokawa is a 13-year-old first-year junior high school student who activates a mysterious device called a “Digivice” left by his father, which allows him to see unknown creatures called “Digimon” that ordinary people can’t see. Soon after, he meets Gammamon, a mischievous Digimon left to him by his father, and becomes involved in a string of bizarre phenomena. Together with Gammamon and his friends, Hiro takes his first steps into the world of Digimon.

Background

Digimon Ghost Game is an upcoming TV anime in the hugely popular Digimon mixed-media franchise and is the franchise’s ninth anime series. It was first announced at Bandai's DigiFes 2021 event in August 2020. The anime will be the franchise’s first horror-themed series, as announced in the October 2021 issue of Shueisha's V Jump magazine, and new Digimon are being created specifically for the new series.

The anime is being produced by Toei Animation (Digimon Adventure tri, Digimon Savers 3D - Digital World Kiki Ippatsu!, Digimon Tamers) and features Kimitoshi Chioka (Digimon Adventure, Digimon Savers, Dragon Ball Super) and Masato Mitsuka (Digimon Adventure, Digimon Fusion, Maho Girls Precure!) as series directors with Masashi Sogo (Bleach, Fairy Tail, The Prince of Tennis) handling series composition, Mariko Ito (Anonymous Noise, Isekai Izakaya: Japanese Food From Another World, The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar) handling character designs, Cho Shinozuka (Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Hugtto! Precure) handling Digimon designs, and Kou Otani (Future GPX Cyber Formula, Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz) composing the music. The anime will premiere in Japan on Oct. 3, 2021 on Fuji TV.

Characters

Hiro Amanokawa (Voiced by: Mutsumi Tamura)
A 13-year-old first-year junior high school student who attends the private Hazakura Academy. He is a strong person who can take care of most things by himself and is often relied on by others. He never turns down a request. He has a very inquisitive mind, and after meeting Gammamon, he begins to take an interest in Digimon.

Gammamon (Voiced by: Miyuki Sawashiro)
A Digimon who was given to Hiro by his father, Hakuto. He is very curious and has a tendency to try and bite everything. He is mischievous but obediently listens to Hiro. His favorite food is chocolate.

Ruri Tsukiyono (Voiced by: Yu Kobayashi)
A 13-year-old first-year junior high school student who attends a combined junior and senior high school for girls. She runs a social media account named Rirurun, which is rapidly gaining popularity. She has many friends and is very sociable. She is looking for something that fits her perfectly and wants to get involved in everything.

Angoramon (Voiced by: Kazuya Nakai)
A large Digimon with long ears that flies calmly through the sky. He has a keen sense of hearing and can distinguish distant sounds. He is always calm and has a mature personality. He is very knowledgeable about the Digital World. He likes to listen to Ruri play the piano.

Kiyoshiro Higashimitarai (Voiced by: Akira Ishida)
A 14-year-old second-year junior high school student and the head of the boy’s dorm at the private Hazakura Academy. He is a genius who skipped graduate school in the U.S. but is living in Japan as a student for some reason. He is usually condescending and talkative, but he also has a cowardly side.

Jellymon (Voiced by: Yu Shimamura)
A soft-bodied Digimon with a squishy head. She can slip through walls and the ground with ease. She is strong-willed like a queen and hates to lose. Sheenjoys human activities and tries to participate in their like they are a game. She likes to scare Kiyoshiro.
