Synopsis

The world’s greatest assassin is reincarnated into a world of swords and magic after being double-crossed by his employer and dying in a plane crash. Now named Lugh Tuatha Dé, he is the heir to the House of Tuatha Dé who acquires new skills in the medicinal arts and retains all of his assassination skills from his previous life. He is tasked by the goddess who reincarnated him to use his special skill set to kill the world’s hero, Epona Liannenon, who is prophesied to become drunk on power after killing the Demon Lord and ultimately destroy the world. But can his unmatched assassination skills really defeat powerful magic?

Background

The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat is a light novel series written by Rui Tsukiyo and illustrated by Reia that was first published on the user-generated novel publishing website Shosetsuka ni Naro beginning in July 2018. It was later picked up by Kadokawa Shoten, who have published six volumes under their Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint as of February 2021. Yen Press has licensed the novel for English release in North America and has published four volumes as of January 2021.

A manga adaptation illustrated by Hamao Sumeragi began serialization on Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace Up seinen manga website in January 2019, and three collected tankobon volumes have been published as of April 2021. Yen Press has also licensed the manga for English release in North America and has published two volumes as of January 2021.

A TV anime adaptation was announced in February 2021. It is being jointly animated by SILVER LINK (Battle Girl High School, Death March to The Parallel World Rhapsody, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya) and Studio Palette (Deca-Dence, The Misfit of Demon King Academy) and features Masafumi Tamura (BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense, Girl Friend Beta, The Pet Girl of Sakurasou) as director with Katsuhiko Takayama (Aldnoah.Zero, Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story) handling series composition and scripts, Eri Nagata (Blade & Soul, Ensemble Stars!, Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto) handling character designs, and Kenichi Kuroda (Hatena Illusion, Kira Kira Happy Hirake! Cocotama, The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent) composing the music. The anime’s opening theme song is "Dark Seeks Light" by Yui Ninomiya, and the ending theme song is "A Promise" by Aira Yuki. The anime will premiere in Japan on Oct. 6, 2021 on AT-X, Tokyo MX, and other channels.

Characters

Lugh Tuatha Dé (Voiced by: Kenji Akabane)
Formerly the world’s greatest assassin. After being betrayed and assassinated by his organization, he is reincarnated in another world as the eldest son of an aristocratic assassin. As a condition of his reincarnation, he is given the task of assassinating a hero by the Goddess.

Dia Vicorne (Voiced by: Reina Ueda)
The daughter of the aristocratic Vicorne family from a neighboring country. She has the highest magical skills of any mage. Though she looks younger than Lugh, who is her childhood friend, she is actually three years older than him and wants him to treat her like an older sister.

Tarte (Voiced by: Yuki Takada)
Even since being found by Lugh when she was on the verge of collapse, she has pledged her loyalty to him and takes care of him as his assistant and personal maid.

Maha (Voiced by: Shino Shimoji)
The daughter of a former merchant who is saved by Lugh after almost being trafficked by a corrupt orphanage. She is smart and serves as the representative of the company that Lugh establishes.

Cian (Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa)
Lugh’s father and head of the Tuatha Dé family.

Ethilu (Voiced by: Chiaki Takahashi)
Lugh’s mother.

The Goddess (Voiced by: Yukari Tamura)
She is responsible for reincarnating Lugh and gives him the task of assassinating the hero.

The Assassin (Voiced by: Junpei Morita)
Lugh’s former identity, he was the world’s greatest assassin but was assassinated by the organization he swore allegiance to before he could retire.
