Synopsis

Though the world is mysterious, it is a kind and warm place, and just as there are all kinds of different people around you, there are all kinds of mysterious inhabitants in this world. Follow along to find out what Gunma-chan and his friends are up to today!

Background

Gunma-chan is an original TV anime based on Gunma Prefecture’s mascot character, Gunma-chan. The anime is being produced by Gunma Prefecture and animated by Ascension. Staff includes Mitsuru Hongo (Ascendance of a Bookworm, Sakura Wars: The Movie, World Trigger) as director and scriptwriter, and Masahiro Kurio (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Perfect Blue, Street Fighter Alpha: Generations) designing the characters. The anime will be narrated by Takako Honda.

The anime will premiere in Japan on Oct. 3, 2021 on Tokyo MX, TV Kanagawa, TV Saitama, Chiba TV, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, Sun TV, and KBS Kyoto. The anime will span 39 short 7-minute episodes and will air in three-episode chunks. After the TV broadcast is complete, Gunma Prefecture will also make the anime available to stream online worldwide with English, French, and Chinese subtitles.
