Rintaro Okabe Steins;Gate - Nendoroid

Steins;Gate is a series that first began as a visual novel created by 5pb. Games (currently Mages Inc.) in 2009. After the success of the original visual novel, an anime adaptation by White Fox was later produced and first aired in 2011, which quickly thrust the series into the limelight. Today, the Steins;Gate series is renowned as one of the best time travel and sci-fi series in the anime community and is often considered to be a must-see for anyone getting into anime. Due to this success, it is no surprise that a variety of merchandise based on Steins;Gate was produced, with figures of its endearing cast of characters being one of the most desirable. Out of the many different brands and lines of figures, Good Smile Company's Nendoroid line is one of the most recognizable for its cute chibi style, wide range of characters. This figure of Rintaro Okabe perfectly encapsulates his fabricated mad scientist identity: Kyouma Hououin. It has him wearing his usual "scientist" outfit, which consists of a white undershirt, khaki slacks, and his iconic white lab coat. Rintaro Okabe is the main character of Steins;Gate and a self-proclaimed mad scientist who spends most of his free time creating miscellaneous gadgets in his "laboratory".

About Rintaro Okabe: Background

Although his legal name is Rintaro Okabe, he often assumes his "true" name and identity, Kyouma Hououin. This manufactured identity is brazenly confident, melodramatic, obnoxious, and paranoid, as Kyouma is constantly afraid that he is being watched by a fictional "Organization" at all times. One day, however, Okabe and the other members of his makeshift lab accidentally create a device that can send text messages into the past and alter the present. Shortly after, along with the help of the genius neuroscientist Kurisu Makise, the lab members upgrade this device to send one's memories into the past. After their lab is raided by an unknown group, Okabe is forced to use this machine and time leap into the past in order to reach the perfect world line: the "Steins;Gate".

About Rintaro Okabe: Abilities

Whenever the past is altered and worldlines shift, the memories of others are "rewritten" to fit the new worldline, meaning that no one should be able to remember what happened in another worldline. That said, Okabe seems to have the unique ability to keep all of his memories between worldlines. Okabe dubs this ability "Reading Steiner" and is essential for achieving his goal to reach the Steins;Gate. Aside from his Reading Steiner, Okabe is also an engineering student, where he likely learned how to create the various gadgets present in his lab. These gadgets vary greatly in function and can range anywhere from an instant humidifier, to a TV remote gun, to the previously mentioned time machine.

Other Important Steins;Gate characters

When it comes to Rintaro Okabe, there are no characters that are more important to him than Mayuri Shiina and Kurisu Makise.

Mayuri Shiina

Mayuri Shiina is a young woman who has known Okabe since they were both children. Due to their long-lasting friendship, Mayuri was designated as the second member of Okabe's lab and is the oldest member, aside from Okabe himself. She is largely portrayed as excessively childish and innocent, yet very perceptive and willing to cheer up her friends when they are feeling down. She likes spending much of her free time with Okabe in his lab and enjoys both creating and wearing cosplay outfits. She also works part-time at the local maid cafe, May Queen Nyan-nyan, along with Faris NyanNyan.

Kurisu Makise

Kurisu Makise, unlike Okabe, is a proven genius scientist in the field of neuroscience and studies at the fictional Viktor Chondria University in New York. At the beginning of the story of Steins;Gate, Okabe finds Kurisu seemingly dead, but finds her alive and well the very next day. Eventually, Kurisu is forcefully made into the next member of Okabe's lab as they attempt to understand the time machine Okabe and Daru accidentally created. Kurisu is an exceptionally intelligent individual who proves herself to be vital to Okabe and the rest of the lab, as her research into neuroscience was used to upgrade their time machine from sending simple texts to the entire memories of a person. While she is generally friendly to the other lab members, she often takes up a sarcastic and harsh tone with Okabe and Daru. That said, she does find some common ground with the self-proclaimed mad scientist.
