About Filo
Filo is a main character of The Rising of the Shield Hero and one of Naofumi Iwatani’s companions. She is a Filolial that can take the appearance of a human girl. Purchased as an egg alongside Raphtalia, Filo is one of Naofumi's greatest allies.
About Filo: Background
Filo first appears as an egg for sale by the trader selling Raphtalia. According to the slave trader, Filo was intended to be sold for her meat. Instead, Naofumi raised her alongside Raphtalia, leveling her up and rapidly increasing her growth. As a monster and animal, Filo mainly relies on her instincts. Like others in her species, she needs to regularly pull carts or she will grow restless. She also has a great dislike for dragons.
Prior to unlocking her transformation ability, Filo behaved exclusively like an animal. Her greatest love was for food and the affection of her owner, Naofumi. After transforming, Filo acts like a spoiled child and acts out and refuses orders when things don't go her way. However, she eventually responds to Naofumi's disciplining and becomes a trustworthy and reliable ally. She still possesses many quirks, such as her insatiable appetite, her penchant for nicknames, and her chatty nature. Her animal instincts help her determine someone's intentions quickly, making her an excellent judge of character.
About Filo: Abilities
Especially in her Filolial form, Filo has a high base attack and speed. Her size also makes her attacks hit with heavy force. Filo has learned to augment her already high speed with magic, making her nearly uncatchable on the battlefield. Her battle experience has also made Filo a skilled fighter along with her natural abilities. Despite coming across as an airhead, Filo is a self-proclaimed genius. She learned the human language very quickly and can memorize a spell by glancing at it once.
Her magical abilities are high overall and she can easily determine an opponent's magical level. Due to her species, Filo has an affinity for wind magic. She can manifest wind in blades and summon massive tornadoes. Filo can use minor healing magic on herself during battles as well. As the light novels progress, Filo increasingly uses cooperative magic with her companions, like Raphtalia and Melty.

A member of the main cast, much of Filo's significant narrative contribution occurs through her relationships with Naofumi and Raphtalia. However, Filo also embarks on her own character development journey, making her own meaningful connections along the way.
Melty Q Melromarc
Melty is the young, second daughter of the King and Queen of Melromarc. Despite her age, Melty often exhibits a high level of maturity, kindness, and understanding. In many ways, she is the complete opposite of her older sister, Malty. Her magical specialty is water magic and she cares deeply for monsters and demi-humans. She has a particular interest in filolials.
Melty first became interested in Filo through her curiosity toward filolials. Due to their similar childlike demeanors, the two became fast friends. They consider each other to be their best friend and would even risk their lives for the other.
Fitoria
Fitoria is the Queen of the Filolials. Surviving for several generations, Fitoria was raised by a former legendary hero. From them, she received her task to prevent the future generations from fighting each other. Her duties also included killing any unfit heroes so the next generation could be born. In her full filiolial form, she is nearly 200 times larger than Filo.
After learning about Filo, Fitoria considered her a possible candidate for her successor. The two got along immediately with a bond as close as sisters. However, Fitoria challenged Filo to a fight to test her skills and easily overwhelmed her. In the end, Filo lost the fight but passed the trial to become the successor of the Queen of the Filolials.
