OtapediaCynthia Pokemon - Nendoroid

Since its debut in 1996, Pokemon has been a franchise that went against the standard gendered toy marketing. Instead, the series appealed to boys and girls with its extensive range of cool, cute, and clever collectible Pokemon. The series has also produced a fairly diverse cast of strong characters, giving most kids a hero to identify with. One of these strong characters with a great impact on the fandom is Cynthia. The first female champion in the games, Cynthia provided one of the toughest challenges at the time as well as a mysterious air fitting her origin games. The following two generations would also see female champions, setting a new trend in the games. In a similar trendsetting fashion, Cynthia was the first Pokemon character to appear as a Nendoroid, as seen in the figure "Nendoroid Cynthia."

Nendoroid Cynthia

The first female champion of the Pokemon franchise also became the first champion released as a Nendoroid figure. Cynthia's stark and elegant design has been replicated in a smaller, chibi form. She wears her standard black outfit with a long coat accented with fur-like trim. Her unique hair accessories feature a metallic gold trim subtly mimicked on her shoes. The figure comes with two face plates: a neutral expression and a serene, closed-eye smile. Both of these expressions are partially obscured by Cynthia's long, side-swept bangs. Additional figure accessories include a standard Pokeball and Cynthia's main partner, Garchomp. Garchomp is also partially articulated for more range in poses.

About Cynthia

Cynthia is the champion of the Sinnoh Pokemon League in the Pokemon video games. She serves as the final main game challenge in Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Brilliant Diamond, and Shining Pearl. She is a very popular character in the franchise with some fans claiming her to be the toughest Champion fight in the series.

About Cynthia: Background

Cynthia grew up in the Sinnoh region where she first started her Pokemon journey. Like the player character, Cynthia once received a Pokedex assignment from the region's researcher, Professor Rowan. Along with her Garchomp, Cynthia traveled across Sinnoh and eventually became the region's most powerful trainer. Following her ancestry, Cynthia also has a deep interest in the mythology of the Sinnoh region, calling herself the "Researcher of Myths."

As the Sinnoh region Champion, Cynthia has a confident, strong aura. The time she spent traveling has also earned her a great deal of wisdom that she imparts to the player. During battle, she remains calm and collected even when cornered. Cynthia also possesses interest and curiosity about Sinnoh history, going as far as to do research firsthand.

About Cynthia: Abilities

Her status as the Sinnoh Champion reflects her prowess as a Pokemon trainer. In all her game appearances, Cynthia uses a balanced team with several unique Pokemon types. Her Pokemon also know moves to counter most of their weaknesses, showing her preparedness and battle strategy. Each Pokemon on her team optimizes the highest game stat of their species. For example, her Spiritomb and Milotic both possess high defense stats and, as a result, run a defensive moveset. Her star Pokemon is her Garchomp, which possesses high attack and speed stats.

Other Important Pokemon Characters

Cynthia's role and relationships change between different entries in the Generation IV games. Additionally, as a fan-favorite character, her later appearances expand on her character development. Her most consistent and plot-significant relationships, however, come from Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.

Cynthia's Garchomp

Cynthia's Garchomp is her ace Pokemon and often appears in media as her main partner. Garchomp is a ground and dragon-type pokemon, giving it several type resistances, but also making it very weak to ice attacks. Cynthia's Garchomp is a male, shown by the notch in the fin on its back.

Garchomp appears on every iteration of Cynthia's team throughout the franchise. Depending on the game, Garchomp often wields held items that boost its attack or speed stat. During the Sinnoh Classic competition on the now-defunct Pokemon Global Link, players could receive Cynthia's Garchomp as an event pokemon.

Professor Rowan

Professor Rowan is the Sinnoh region's leading Pokemon researcher. He has a stern and intimidating appearance. While he does have a serious personality and approach to research, Rowan is also much nicer than he appears.

In the games, Rowan gives the player their starter Pokemon as well as the Pokedex. Cynthia comments how she also started her Pokemon journey at the request of Professor Rowan.

Cyrus

Cyrus is the main antagonist of the main series fourth generation games, as well as their remakes, and the leader of Team Galactic. He values logic and reason and dismisses emotions and attachment as human imperfections. As a result, he wishes to use Team Galactic to find Sinnoh's Legendary Pokemon and create a new world.

In Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and their remakes, Cyrus and Cynthia do not interact. However, in Pokemon Platinum, Cynthia and the player follow Cyrus into the Distortion World to confront him.
