About Mercy: Background

Mercy, real name Dr. Angela Ziegler, is a healer and a well-known doctor in the medical technology field. Mercy grew up during the Omnic Crisis and lost her parents at a young age to an airstrike during this period. She found out about her parent's death from the police officer who came to her house to deliver the news. However, despite her tragic childhood, she does not let the need for revenge consume her. Instead, she is motivated to heal those in need and advocate for peace.

Mercy obtained her MD and Ph.D. in Switzerland and quickly established herself as a well-respected doctor. She held a particular interest in the area of applied nano-biology. This attracted the attention of Overwatch, and she met with Jack Morrison, the head of Overwatch. Morrison then offers her the chance to become the head of Overwatch's medical research. She takes the offer and works hard to help expand her research so she can save as many lives. As a part of her research, she developed the Valkyrie swift-response suit, which Mercy herself uses. Even in Overwatch, she stays adamant that her study is not misused. This often leads to her butting heads with her superiors.

About Mercy: Abilities

Mercy is a character that is centered around healing. She can boost the damage her team deals with and cover for some of her team's mistakes.

One of Mercy's passive abilities is called Regeneration. When she doesn't take any damage for one second, she can slowly recover her health. This skill is beneficial as it allows her to stay in the front and continue to heal her teammates. She also has an ability named Angelic Descent. It will enable her to slowly fall to the ground, which proves helpful when trying to evade enemy fire.

Mercy is known for her Caduceus Staff. The staff's primary ability is to create a healing line for a close-by teammate, allowing the teammate to heal. Its secondary function creates a damage-boosting line. Another weapon Mercy can be seen with is the Caduceus Blaster. This blaster enables her to shoot quickly. The blaster will also automatically reload when she is equipped with her staff. The blaster can prove deadly at close range, especially with headshots. She also has an ability named Resurrect, which allows her to revive a dead ally. The ally is returned with total health to the position where they died.

Mercy's ultimate ability is the Valkyrie. When this ability is activated, all of her abilities are significantly enhanced, and she can fly freely. She will also have endless bullets on her Caduceus Blaster. On top of this, all of the lines will reach all teammates. This greatly enhances the damage output of the team.

McCree

McCree, also known as Cole Cassidy, is a member of Overwatch. He was initially in a gang called Deadlock. However, after multiple thefts, Gabriel Reyes is caught and approached to join Blackwatch or rot in prison. McCree decides to join Overwatch to get rid of past sins. Both McCree and Mercy were a part of Overwatch at the same time.

Genji

Genji Shimada and Mercy are good friends. The two first meet when a Blackwatch team finds Genji. He was on the verge of death when he was found. Mercy was the one who treated him and watched over him till he fully recovered.

D.Va

D.Va, real name Hana Song, was a reigning professional game. She was drafted into the MEKA program to help control the MEKA drones. MEKA required pilots and recruited gamers, as gamers often hold very high reflexes and instincts necessary to operate the MEKA system. She later joins Overwatch to help provide information about the Null Sector attacks to her home country. Both Mercy and D.Va were a part of Overwatch during the same period.
