Kaworu Nagisa Neon Genesis Evangelion - Nendoroid

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a name known throughout the anime community for its deep exploration into the psychology of its characters and interesting methods of storytelling. While some may criticize the series for its unusual methods, there is no doubting that the franchise has become one of the most recognizable series ever since the release of Neon Genesis Evangelion in 1995. Due to its popularity, a plethora of merchandise based on the franchise was produced. One such example would be Nendoroid figures, a line of chibi-style figures produced by Good Smile Company. Many different characters from Evangelion have received Nendoroids, but one of the most notable would be Kaworu Nagisa, who has seen two distinct Nendoroid releases: the "Nendoroid Rebuild of Evangelion Kaworu Nagisa" and the "Nendoroid Rebuild of Evangelion Kaworu Nagisa: Plugsuit Ver.".

Nendoroid Rebuild of Evangelion Kaworu Nagisa

This recreation of Kaworu has him wearing the middle school uniform of the middle school that he and many other characters from Evangelion attend. Said uniform consists of a purple undershirt, a white button-up shirt, a pair of black slacks with a brown belt, and a pair of white shoes. As with all Nendoroids, this figure of Kaworu includes a variety of additional parts and points of articulation that allow for a wide range of poses and customization. Extra parts that come with this set include several pairs of arms and legs, a base made to look like stone that Kaworu can sit on, a portable music player that can be shared with the Shinji Ikari Nendoroid figure, and three different face plates to change Kaworu's expression.

Nendoroid Rebuild of Evangelion Kaworu Nagisa: Plugsuit Ver.

While the previous figure had Kaworu wearing his school uniform, this one has him in an Evangelion plugsuit. In particular, this plugsuit is used with Eva-13 and is mainly colored dark blue and black with accents of red and green. This figure also comes with unique accessories as well, including a recreation of the Eva-13 Entry Plug, the Spear of Cassius, several pairs of arms and legs, additional hairpieces, and three different face plates.

About Kaworu Nagisa

Kaworu Nagisa is an Eva pilot who originally debuted toward the end of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion series. Although his role only lasted a short time, it had a profound effect on many other characters, most notably Shinji Ikari.

About Kaworu Nagisa: Background

Although his appearances between Neon Genesis Evangelion and Rebuild of Evangelion differ in some aspects, much of his character remains the same. He appears as a young man with dark silver hair and red eyes and is generally portrayed as being calm, collected, and kind. He quickly takes a liking to Shinji and the two become friends at a rather unusually fast pace, though the two do not seem to mind. Eventually, however, it is revealed that Kaworu is actually an Angel, betraying Shinji's trust after befriending him. Despite being a supposed enemy of humanity, Kaworu has a distinct interest in human culture and is often associated with classical music.

About Kaworu Nagisa: Abilities

When compared to the previous Angels in the Evangelion series, Kaworu may seem rather weak since he lacks both size and destructive power. That said, Kaworu certainly does have abilities that no other human has. For example, Kaworu has the ability to generate the strongest A.T. Field that NERV had ever observed, which Kaworu can use to levitate in the air if he desires. Furthermore, being an Angel makes him an incredibly proficient Eva pilot. As a result, Kaworu can effortlessly synchronize with Eva-02 after Asuka becomes unable to pilot it herself.

Other Important Evangelion Characters

Throughout the Evangelion series, two characters that are the closest to Kaworu would be Shinji Ikari and Rei Ayanami.

Shinji Ikari

Shinji Ikari is the main protagonist of the Evangelion series and the pilot of Eva-01. When he was still a toddler, Shinji lost his mother, Yui Ikari, in an experiment that led to the creation of Eva-01. To make matters worse, the aftermath of the experiment led his father, Gendo Ikari, to essentially abandon Shinji out of desperation to be reunited with Yui. These two tragic events would leave a traumatic impact on Shinji, as he would develop issues with opening up to others and self-worth as he grew older. Many years later, Gendo suddenly summons Shinji to Tokyo-3 to make him pilot Eva-01 and fight against the Angels that threaten humanity as we know it.

Rei Ayanami

Rei Ayanami, much like Kaworu, is a very enigmatic character whose history is largely kept a secret for much of the series. She appears as a young woman with light, bluish hair and red eyes and has a soft-spoken and deadpan personality most of the time. As the story develops, it is revealed that Rei is actually a clone that was derived from parts of Shinji's mother, Yui, and the second Angel, Lilith. After Shinji becomes the designated pilot for Eva-01, she pilots the prototype Evangelion Unit, Eva-00.
