The English name for the popular series, “Watashi ga Motenai no wa dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!” would be “No Matter How I Look At It, It's You Guys Fault I'm Not Popular!” Due to the long title, it is often shortened and called Watamote. It is an anime series that was released on the 8th of July 2013. The authors of this series are known by the pseudonym Tanigawa Nico and they are a pair of a writer and an artist. Together they have written many popular series but the most well-known would be Watamote. The story depicts the life of a young girl who has trouble communicating with others. Tomoko Kuroki is a high school girl who thought she would become popular when she entered high school but real life is completely different. Her one-sided thoughts came from her long hours of playing love simulation games and made her unable to speak to real males. At school, she is a loner with no friends and tries various things to improve her reputation. The cringe and painful actions she takes have made her a popular character with many fans cheering her on and wanting to support her. One popular product made in her design is the Nendoroid figure which is called “Tomoko Kuroki Nendoroid.”

The cringe and almost painful to watch Tomoko arrives in the form of a small Nendoroid. Her outfit is just like the series and she wears her school uniform and black tights. The sculptor has perfectly recreated Tomoko's unkempt and messy black hair as many parts of her hair stick out and show she hasn't been taking care of it. There are two different hairpieces to enjoy, one with her fringe covering her eye, or her fringe parted to show both eyes.
The Tomoko Nendoroid comes with three different facial expressions that embody her personality perfectly. Firstly is her standard grinning face with dark bags underneath her eyes. The second is a very stressed expression as her mouth is wide open and her eyes are large and unfocused. Lastly is a perverted expression as she leers and blushes while thinking about naughty thoughts. There are also various optional features to recreate the signature moments. Included are her backpack, ripped underwear, massager, nude butlers DVD, ripped paper with the word "reality", and alternate hand parts.

Tomoko is someone who played a large amount of love simulation games. The games are known as otome games and are where you try to make the various handsome characters that appear fall in love with you. Since they are games, it is relatively easy to figure out the pattern and learn how to make the boys fall in love with you. Tomoko is someone who has played otome games and has become a professional at the games. She mistakenly believes the skills of making the characters fall in love with her will translate into real life.
When she enters high school, Tomoko believes that she will be popular with many boys trying to fight for her affection. The truth is quite harsh and painful. She was not able to talk to anyone at school and missed out on joining any friend groups. Contrary to her expectations, Tomoko became a loner at school with nobody to talk to. She then continues to do various actions to get people to notice her.

Tomoki is the younger brother of Tomoko. He is very similar in appearance to his sister with his messy black hair, black eyes, and eye bags. In contrast to Tomoko, he is considered popular and attractive. He has no problems making friends and talking to others in his class. When he talks with his sister he is often confused by her behavior and finds her irritating. Despite his negative thoughts about his sister, he listens when she wants advice and agrees to converse with her daily to rehabilitate her speaking ability.
Naruse Yu
Yu is Tomoko's best friend from middle school. She was very similar to Tomoko during those days and was considered nerdy as well. Yu had a successful high school debut by dying her hair, wearing contacts, and becoming sociable. She has achieved what Tomoko wished to have, causing Tomoko to feel some discomfort.
