Synopsis
A young priestess joins her first adventuring party but quickly gets into trouble when their first goblin-related contract goes about as wrong as it could possibly go. With the rest of her party slain, the priestess is rescued by the mysterious figure of the Goblin Slayer - a wandering adventurer whose only purpose in life is to exterminate Goblins with extreme prejudice…
Background
Goblin Slayer is adapted from the popular series of light novels by Kumo Kagyu with illustrations by Noboru Kannatsuki. The series has also been adapted into two different manga, one by Masahiro Ikeno, and another by Kosuke Kurose, both of which are currently running in Monthly Big Gangan. A prequel manga by Kento Eida is also running in Young Gangan.
The anime adaptation was announced at the "GA Bunko 2018 Happy Stage” presentation at Wonder Festival in February 2018. The first season is scheduled to air in October 2018. The opening theme for the first season will be performed by Mili.
Characters
Goblin Slayer (Voiced by: Yuichiro Umehara)
After his family was massacred by goblins, the Goblin Slayer became consumed by hatred and lives only to rid the world of the goblin scourge. A silver-ranked adventurer, he has been given a special certification by the Guild thanks to the sheer number of goblins he has killed as well as the research work he has done in studying goblin society and biology. Though he is not against the possibility that there may be some good goblins existing in the world, he is committed to the idea that they must be destroyed because of all the destruction they have caused.
Priestess (Voiced by: Yui Ogura)
An orphan raised in a temple, the Priestess is a kind and helpful person. Her first contract as a novice adventurer goes horribly wrong, but she is eventually rescued by the Goblin Slayer and decides to team up with him in a new party.
High Elf Archer (Voiced by: Nao Toyama)
High Elf Archer came with Dwarf Shaman and Lizard Priest to petition Goblin Slayer for his help wiping out goblins. Lacking resources and needing to deal with more complex monsters, the elf armies are unable to combat the goblin threat effectively without causing themselves political problems and so they need Goblin Slayer’s assistance. She may look down on Goblin Slayer for his unkempt appearance and insistence on fighting goblins rather than “adventuring” but eventually comes to respect his fighting spirit.
Dwarf Shaman (Voiced by: Yuichi Nakamura)
Dwarf Shaman is in the same party as High Elf Archer and Lizard Priest and came looking for Goblin Slayer to get his help slaying goblins. Cheerful and friendly, he’s fond of a drink and, like most Dwarves, is good with metal and stone. Dwarf Shaman does, however, argue with High Elf Archer, proving more knowledgeable than she is despite being just 170 years old to her 2,000.
Lizard Priest (Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita)
Lizardman Lizard Priest is an adventurer in a party with Dwarf Shaman and High Elf Archer. A silver-rank adventurer, Lizard Priest is a very centered individual who can remain calm and cool-headed in even the most difficult situations thanks to his religion. He also often acts as a mediator between Dwarf Shaman and High Elf Archer when they get into arguments and is a natural healer, though he can also use a sword in battle and is able to summon a host of skeletal minions to assist him. Lizard Priest is also a great fan of cheese which he finds especially exotic because they don’t raise cattle in his part of the world.
Cow Girl (Voiced by: Yuka Iguchi)
Cow Girl is a childhood friend of Goblin Slayer’s whose family was also murdered by goblins. Orphaned, she was taken in by her uncle and works on his farm as a laborer. Goblin Slayer was also taken in by Cow Girl’s uncle and uses his salary to repay their kindness.
Guild Girl (Voiced by: Maaya Uchida)
Guild Girl works as a receptionist in the Guild office handing out contracts to adventurers. She worries greatly about the villagers and the goblin threat, lamenting that there are so few adventurers capable of taking on dangerous contracts - particularly as the young and naive ones often end up paying the price. Perhaps this is why she has such respect for Goblin Slayer who willingly takes on difficult contracts no one else would ever attempt.
Witch (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)
Dangerously beautiful, Witch is an experienced spellcaster in a party with Spearman. Often acting in a deliberately seductive manner, she aims to unbalance those around her but is also genuinely caring and often goes out of her way to help those who need it.
Spearman (Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka)
A silver-rank adventurer, Spearman is based on the frontier and is the partner of Witch. Invested with the spirit of chivalry, Spearman has a strong sense of justice and always does what’s right regardless of monetary gain. He does, however, use his fighting prowess as an excuse to show off in front of the ladies - notably Guild Girl.
