Synopsis
When elementary school student Masaru Saiga’s father dies and he inherits a vast fortune, he finds himself targeted by his greedy relatives who want the money for themselves. Luckily, he runs into Narumi Kato who decides to help him. Meanwhile, Masaru is also being followed by automatons with extreme martial arts capabilities. Just as Masaru and Narumi are about to face catastrophe, a silver-haired girl manipulating a marionette arrives to save them…
Background
Karakuri Circus is inspired by the manga by Kazuhiro Fujita which which ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1997 to 2006. The anime adaptation was announced on March 14, 2018 via Web Sunday. The 36-episode series will premiere in October 2018.
Characters
Masaru Saiga (Voiced by: Chihiro Ueda)
Eleven-year old Masaru Saiga is timid and a bit of a crybaby but kind and always thinking of others. When his father, a CEO, suddenly dies leaving him a vast fortune, his life is threatened by greedy relatives.
Narumi Kato (Voiced by: Rikiya Koyama)
Eighteen-year-old Narumi Kato can’t stand to see people in trouble and always helps those in need. He has studied Chinese martial arts and is extremely skilled. Narumi is a sufferer of the strange “Zonapha Syndrome” in which he has to make people laugh or risk becoming unable to breathe.
Shirogane (Eleonore) (Voiced by: Megumi Hayashibara)
Shirogane is a young woman with silver hair who controls the marionette Harlequin. Thanks to a promise to Masaru’s grandfather, she has made protecting him a top priority. Shirogane has an impassive expression and never smiles, but loves Masaru deeply.
Eiryo Ashihana (Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai)
Eiryo Ashihana is a former assassin who killed people using automatons. He’ll take on any contract so long as there’s money involved but always fulfills his obligations.
Guy Christophe Rech (Voiced by: Nozomu Sasaki)
Known as the destroyer of 200 automatons. He may seem cool and collected but harbors intense rage and a passionate heart.
