Synopsis
Honda is a bookstore worker with a difference - he’s a skeleton! Still, he works hard selling books from the store’s manga counter and is being driven slowly mad by manga-loving customers in this hilariously surreal workplace comedy.
Background
Gaikotsu Shotenin Honda-san is adapted from the manga by Honda which has been running online on pixiv Comic since August 2015. The anime adaptation was announced on the Monthly Comic Gene website and in the third volume of the complied manga in September 2017. The first season of the TV anime will premiere in October 2018.
The first season opening, "ISBN Inner Sound & Book's Narrative,” and ending, "Book-end, Happy-end,” will be performed by TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND with Honda guesting on the opening and Hiroshi Takano on the ending.
Characters
Honda (Voiced by: Soma Saito)
Honda is a bookseller who usually works at the foreign comics and picture books desk. He is also a skeleton. Honda is a nervous sort of person who is prone to negative thoughts and lacks confidence. He’s not really keyed into pop culture and often arrives late to the party when it comes to getting into stuff.
Kamibukuro (Voiced by: Yuko Sanpei)
Kamibukuro also works in the store and is in charge of four-panel manga and subculture. He’s the mood maker of the manga department and is friendly and easy to like but also has his serious side and likes to get on with the job.
Hotai (Voiced by: Eri Kitamura)
Hotai is in charge of shojo manga at the bookstore. She often works the late shift and really loves manga. Hotai is easy going and good at looking after people so she's popular with the part-timers too.
Lantern (Voiced by: Kimiko Saito)
Lantern is responsible for handling the books from Shu-E-sha. He’s also been friends with Honda for a long time and is good with his hands.
Okitsune (Voiced by: Shizuka Itou)
Okitsune is in charge of Kou-D-sha books at the store. A sharp-tongued model, Okitsune is clever and perceptive with the ability to adapt easily to different situations.
Ko-omote (Voiced by: Aya Endo)
Ko-Omote is in charge of BL and TL manga and is also the most knowledgeable about subculture. She is extremely polite and has an excellent manner with customers but can lose her cool when worked up.
Rabbit Head (Voiced by: Kazutomi Yamamoto)
Rabbit Head takes care of mooks and gaming books. He looks up to Honda and though not an otaku himself he is quite knowledgeable about anime, games, and subculture. Rabbit Head is the type to tell it like it is.
Full Face (Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto)
Full Face looks after Sho-G-Kan books. He may seem like the reticent type but has a wicked tongue and is always good for a laugh.
Gas Mask (Voiced by: Wataru Hatano)
Gas Mask is in charge of Kadokawa books for boys. He often ends up in charge of the late shift and generally speaking is quite the gentleman, though he also likes to play pranks every now and then. He is very worried about his lower back pain.
Yosetsu Mask (Voiced by: Toshiki Masuda)
Yosetsu Mask is the head of light novels. He often does the late shift and is a secret fan of American comics.
Kendo (Voiced by: Kotaro Nishiyama)
Kendo is in charge of magazines and is a transfer from distribution. He’s slim and compact but strong and also the nicest guy at the store.
Armor (Voiced by: Akemi Okamura)
Armor is in charge of BL and is an active otaku. She’s also the sort of person who’s easy to talk to about your worries and is battling against everyday overtime.
Pest Mask (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)
Pest Mask takes care of Haku-S-sha books and is Honda’s direct supervisor as well as the store’s voice of reason. She is filled with the spirit of justice and acts as a guard enforcing discipline. She is also just generally nice to look at.
