Background

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, also known as TenSura, is an isekai light novel series written by Fuse and illustrated by Mitz Vah that began being published to the user-generated novel publishing site Shosetsuka ni Naro in February 2013. The series was acquired by Micro Magazine in May 2014 and is published under their GC Novels imprint.

A manga adaptation by Taiki Kawakami began in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine in 2015. This was followed by several spin-offs. The first, titled That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: How Monsters Walk (Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken: Mamono no Arukikata), is illustrated by Sho Okagiri and has been serialized on Micro Magazine's Comic Ride website since July 2016. The second is the 4-panel manga The Slime Diaries: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensura Nikki: Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken) illustrated by Shiba and serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine since March 2018. The third is That Time I Got Reincarnated (Again!) as a Workaholic Slime (Tensei Shitara Shachiku Datta Ken) illustrated by Shizuku Akechi and serialized on the Niconico website since September 2018. The fourth is That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Strange Tale ~Trinity Living in Tempest (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Ibun Makuni Kurashi no Trinity) illustrated by Tae Tono and serialized in the webcomic Suiyobi no Sirius. And the fifth is That Time I Got Reincarnated for Island Farming (Tensei Shitara Shima Kosaku Datta Ken) supervised by Fuse and written by Kenshi Hirokane and Yasuki Kawakami that began serialization in the March 2019 issue of Evening.

The second season of the anime adaptation is once again being produced by studio 8 Bit and features the same staff and cast from season 1 including Atsushi Nakayama as director, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu handling series composition, Ryoma Ebata handling character designs, Takahiro Kishida handling monster designs, and Elements Garden composing the music. The opening theme song is "Storyteller" by TRUE, and the ending theme song is "Storyseeker" by STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION. The anime was originally scheduled to air beginning in October 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It premiered on Jan. 12, 2021 on Tokyo MX, MBS, BS11, and other channels. The season will run for two cours, with the second cour planned to start in April 2021.
