Synopsis

Creating everything in existence is quite the task, but God has help from the unique designers of Heaven's Animal Design Department. Follow the day to day grind of these designers as they try to realize God’s unreasonable requests with their own original, eccentric ideas!

Background

Heaven's Design Team is a comedy manga series written by Hebi-Zou and Tsuta Suzuki and illustrated by Tarako that has been serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Morning Two seinen manga magazine since 2017. The manga has been licensed for English release in North America by Kodansha USA.

The anime adaptation was announced in April 2020 and is being produced by Asahi Production. It features Soichi Masui as director, Michiko Yokote handling series composition, Sachiko Oohashi handling character designs, and Hayato Matsuo composing the music. The opening theme song is "Give It Up?" by 96Neko, and the ending theme song is "Designed by Heaven!" by Heaven's Animal Design Department. The anime premiered on Jan. 7, 2021 on Tokyo MX and AT-X and is available to stream online through Crunchyroll.

Characters

Shimoda (Voiced by: Junya Enoki)
Shimoda is the protagonist of the series and a liaison angel between God and the design team. He is Ueda’s subordinate and a young salaryman who is new to the company. He is bewildered by the design team’s eccentric ideas for God’s difficult orders. Due to just being born, he has a fierce curiosity and passion to learn.

Ueda (Voiced by: Yumi Hara)
Ueda is a beautiful blonde angel with glamorous looks who is Shimoda’s boss. She likes to wear a tight suit that shows off her legs and cleavage. She is used to the design team’s odd ideas. She is composed and unflappable.

Tsuchiya (Voiced by: Kazuhiko Inoue)
Tsuchiya is the head of the design team. He is an elderly man with white hair, glasses, and a Japanese kimono. His masterpiece is a horse and he is obsessed with designs that imitate horses ever since he fell in love with the beauty of a horse he designed himself. He spoils his grandson, Kenta.

Kimura (Voiced by: Yuichiro Umehara)
Kimura is a good-looking young designer. His masterpiece is a cow. He considers taste to be an important point when designing and enjoys trying out the living things he and the other designers create.

Mizushima (Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe)
Mizushima is a young male designer with short black hair who wears an outfit reminiscent of Steve Jobs. His masterpiece is a snake. He enjoys simple and innovative designs with sleek functions. He has a deep respect for Tsuchiya.

Kanamori (Voiced by: Daisuke Kishio)
Kanamori is a male designer with long hair who speaks and dresses in a feminine style. His masterpiece is a bird. He loves bright, vibrant things. He thinks beauty is important and has a sophisticated sense for it. He is also quite fashionable.

Meido (Voiced by: Naomi Ozora)
Meigo is a designer girl with an eccentric Gothic lolita-style punk fashion and a petite figure. Her masterpiece is a poisonous toad. She often carries with her an anomalocaris stuffed animal. She loves cute creatures, but her standard of cute is rather unique and she tends to create poisonous creatures.

Unabara (Voiced by: Ryota Takeuchi)
Unabara is a male designer with long hair, a beard, and a well-build body. He is larger and taller than the other male designers. Despite his appearance, he has a mild-mannered and gentle personality. His masterpiece is a kangaroo. He loves cute things and often creates soft and fluffy creatures.

Higuchi (Voiced by: Asuna Tomari)
Higuchi is an engineer in charge of prototypes. She has long, wavy hair that she wears in a ponytail, goggles, and thick work gloves for welding, and wears a black bra and work uniform that she wears open to show her cleavage. She works hard to create working prototypes and is more knowledgable about living creatures than any of the designers.

Kenta (Voiced by: Hina Kino)
Kenta is Tsuchiya’s grandson. He loves horses just as much as Tsuchiya does. He has a well-mannered and energetic personality and loves cool things. Tsuchiya tends to spoil him.

Yokota (Voiced by: Ryota Ohsaka)
Yokota is Ueda’s former subordinate. He is moved from heaven to hell, where he opens a theme park themed around darkness and fire. He wears an eyepatch and restraints, but despite his appearance he is serious about his work.

Mushibu (Insect Team) (Voiced by: Takahiro Mizushima)
Mushibu is a team of similar-looking young men who all have the same fashion, hairstyle, and glasses. They are bug experts who design and research all kinds of bugs. They have a crush on Ueda.

God (Voiced by: Naoki Tatsuta)
The original creator and a trickster who never shows himself. He requests the Design Team to design living creatures, but many of his requests leave the designers baffled. He only accepts designs that he likes.
