Synopsis

Cyber-boxing - the ultimate martial art that fuses bodies and machines. Levius is a young fighter with a modified cybernetic arm who steps into the world of cyber-boxing to develop his talent. Using the latest 3DCG technology, the anime depicts Levius’ mysterious past and his struggles against powerful enemies as he battles to carve out his destiny!

Background

Levius is a manga series written and illustrated by Haruhisa Nakata which was serialized in Shogakukan's Monthly Ikki magazine from December 2012 to September 2014. It has since been released as three collected tankobon volumes. A sequel, titled Levius/est, has been serialized in Shueisha's Ultra Jump magazine since April 2015. The latest ninth and latest volume was released in December 2020, and Nakata has announced that the series will end after its 10th volume. In 2018, Levius/est won the Daruma Illustration Award in the Manga Category at the Japan Expo Awards in Paris. Both manga have been licensed for English release in North America by Viz Media.

A 12-episode original net animation (ONA) by Polygon Pictures premiered on Netflix in November 2019. The anime uses 3DCG and features Hiroyuki Seshita (*Ajin, Blame!, Knights of Sidonia: The Star Where Love is Spun) as chief director and Keisuke Ide (Ajin, Ajin: Demi-Human - Compel, Transformers: Robots in Disguise) as director with Hiroshi Seko (Attack on Titan, Darling in the Franxx, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) handling series composition and scripts along with Kenta Ihara (Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious, Saga of Tanya the Evil, Vinland Saga), Yuki Moriyama (Blame!, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, Knights of Sidonia) handling character designs, and Yugo Kanno (2.43: Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Team, Cells at Work! Code Black, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders) composing the music. The opening theme song is “Link or Chains” by Nana Mizuki, and the ending theme song is “Beautiful Doll” by Mamoru Miyano. The anime premiered on cable TV in Japan on Jan. 9, 2021 on Tokyo MX and BS11.

Characters

Levius Cromwell (Voiced by: Nobunaga Shimazaki)
A Grade-III rookie and currently ranked 24th. His mother was seriously injured and he lost his right arm in a past war. After meeting his uncle Zachs, a former boxer, he begins down the road of cyber-boxing.

Zachs Cromwell (Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe)
Levius’ uncle and a cyber-boxing trainer. He used to be a professional underground boxer, but was forced to retire due to an abnormality in his left eye.

Bill Weinberg (Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai)
The resident technician at Zachs’ gym. He switched from being a medical technician with the army to being a cyber-boxing technician after being invited by Zachs. His wealth of knowledge and skills have attracted attention in the world of cyber-boxing.

Natalia Garnet (Voiced by: Ayane Sakura)
A Grade-III cyber-boxer with Zachs’ gym. She grew up in an orphanage and currently lives at Zachs’ house. She held the record for fastest promotion until being defeated by Levius. She considers Levius to be her rival.

A.J. Langdon (Voiced by: Saori Hayami)
A mysterious and beautiful girl who works alongside Dr. Crown.

Malcolm Eden (Voiced by: Hochu Otsuka)
A veteran Grade-III cyber-boxer who ranks 5th. In his prime he was a Grade-II ranker but was demoted to Grade-III due to his decline with age. He has killed all of his opponents in Grade-III.

Hugo Stratus (Voiced by: Daisuke Ono)
The strongest man and an elite Grade-III cyber-boxer.

Dr. Crown (Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano)
A top executive of the military corporate giant Amethyst. He will stop at nothing to achieve the ultimate beauty and order.
