Synopsis
After getting into serious trouble with a powerful junior high volleyball team in Tokyo, Kimichika Haijima moves back to his mother’s hometown of Fukui where he spent his childhood and is reunited with his childhood friend, Yuni Kuroba. Yuni, who is an outstanding volleyball player but buckles under pressure, and Kimichika, who has an overwhelming passion for volleyball that constantly causes friction with those around him. The two grow to become an ace duo, but they end up clashing at the final prefectural tournament of junior high school and have a falling out before entering high school.
Now students at Seiin High School, they join the volleyball team that includes the team’s passionate captain, Shinichiro; the vice-captain with a sharp tongue and talent to back it up, Misao; and a second-year student who’s a complete newbie to volleyball, Yusuke. Set in Fukui, surrounded by mountains and blue sky, this is a passionate coming-of-age story about a weak men’s volleyball team aiming for the national championship!
Background
2.43: Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Team is a sports light novel series written by Yukako Kabei and illustrated by Aiji Yamakawa that has been published by Shueisha since March 2015 under their Shueisha Bunko imprint. It was adapted into a manga illustrated by Yamakawa that began serialization in Shueisha's Cocohana josei manga magazine in July 2018.
A TV anime adaptation was announced in November 2019. It is being animated by David Production and features Yasuhiro Kimura as director with Yousuke Kuroda handling series composition, Yuichi Takahashi as character designer and chief animation director, Yoshiki Matsumura and Kentaro Akiyama as art directors, and Yugo Kanno handling the music. The opening theme song is "Mahi" by yama, and the ending theme song is “Undulation” by Soushi Sakiyama. Leading up to the anime’s premiere, it has collaborated with Fukui Prefecture on a number of promotional and public relations projects including tourism boosting and the opening video of the anime being played during the 73rd All-Japan Volleyball High School Championships. It premiered on Jan. 7, 2021 during Fuji TV’s NoitaminA programming block. It is available to stream online through Funimation.

Yuni Kuroba (Voiced by: Junya Enoki)
A first-year student at Seiin High School and a wing spiker volleyball team. He begins playing volleyball in earnest after reuniting with this childhood friend, Kimichika. Though his height gives him an advantage, he’s the type who easily buckles under pressure.
Kimichika Haijima (Voiced by: Kensho Ono)
A first-year student at Seiin High School and the volleyball team’s setter. He moved to Tokyo with his family when he was in kindergarten and began attending a junior high school known for its volleyball team. However, due to a certain incident he stopped going to school and returned to his hometown of Fukui. He thinks about nothing but volleyball.
Misao Aoki (Voiced by: Yuichiro Umehara)
A third-year student at Seiin High School and the volleyball team’s vice captain and middle blocker. He is also the vice president of the student council. He starts playing volleyball after being invited by Shinichiro. He is a talented student with a sharp tongue.
Shinichiro Oda (Voiced by: Kento Ito)
A third-year student at Seiin High School and the volleyball team’s captain who plays wing spiker. He is more passionate about volleyball than anyone else but he is held back by his short height and is thinking of pursuing a different path after high school.
**Akito Kanno ** (Voiced by: Shouta Aoi)
A second-year student at Seiin High School and a wing spiker on the volleyball team. Due to health reasons, he isn’t able to exercise outdoors for long periods of time, and during outdoor drills he participates in practicing inside with the girls’ team.
Yusuke Okuma (Voiced by: Subaru Kimura)
A second-year student at Seiin High School and a middle blocker on the volleyball team. He was originally part of another club but was invited by Misao to join the volleyball club.
Naoyasu Uchimura (Voiced by: Gakuto Kajiwara)
A second-year student at Seiin High School and a wing spiker on the volleyball team.
Kazuma Hokao (Voiced by: Yuu Wakabayashi)
A second-year student at Seiin High School and a libero on the volleyball team.
Subaru Mimura (Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa)
A third-year student at Fukubachi Technical High School and a wing spiker on the volleyball team. He is an ace player and the captain of the Fukui Prefecture champions who have had the most appearances at the national championship and is known as “Devil’s Bazooka.” He has a bright and friendly personality and is highly charismatic.
Mitsuomi Ochi (Voiced by: Kouhei Amasaki)
A third-year student at Fukubachi Technical High School and the volleyball team’s manager. He had to stop playing sports due to an injury during the summer of his first year. Though he thought about quitting the team, he was encouraged by Subaru and instead switched to being the manager. He has a reserved and gloomy personality, but the players trust him.

A third-year student at Fukubachi Technical High School and a middle blocker on the volleyball team.
