Synopsis

Miyako is a student in college. One day she meets her little sister Hinata’s friend Hana and falls for her at first sight. She wants to somehow become friends with Hana, but her shy, awkward behavior makes Hana uneasy. So begins her days of scheming to try and win over Hana’s friendship.

Background

Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita! began as a four-panel manga written and illustrated by Nanatsu Mukunoki. The series began serialization in Ichijinsha’s Comic Yuri Hime in November 2016. As of November 2018, four collected tankobon volumes have been released.

An anime adaptation of the series was announced in the third volume of the manga released in June 2018. The anime is being produced at Doga Kobo with Daisuke Hiramaki directing, Yuka Yamada writing the script, Hiromi Nakagawa designing the characters, and Takuro Iga composing the music. Both the opening theme, "Kimama na Tenshi-tachi," and ending theme, “Happy Happy Friends,” are being performed by Maria Sashide, Rika Nagae, Akari Kito, Hitomi Ohwada, and Naomi Ozora as the group Wataten☆5. An advance screening event of the first episode of the anime will be held in December 2018 at Tokyo's Kadokawa Cinema Shinjuku. The anime will premiere in Japan in January 2019.

Characters

Miyako Hoshino (Voiced by: Reina Ueda)

A first-year college student and otaku who secretly likes cosplay. She is shy around others and spends most of her time indoors. She makes Hana wear cosplay outfits she creates by bribing her with snacks.

Hana Shirosaki (Voiced by: Maria Sashide)

A fifth-year elementary school student and Hinata’s classmate. She is a quiet girl who has no self-control when it comes to sweets. After meeting Miyako for the first time she doesn’t like her but ends up putting up with her and dressing up in cosplay outfits in order to get sweets. She’s bad with dogs.

Hinata Hoshino (Voiced by: Rika Nagae)

Miyako’s little sister who is a fifth-year elementary school student. Unlike her older sister, Hinata is cheerful, sociable, and full of energy. She is particularly fond of her sister, and has a bit of a sister complex. She calls Miyako “Mya-nee.”

Noa Himesaka (Voiced by: Akari Kito)

A transfer student who is classmates with Hinata and Hana. She moves in next to Miyako and Hinata and calls Miyako “Mya-san.” She finds out about Miyako’s cosplay obsession after seeing her dressed up one day. She considers herself cute and hates when others are called cute instead of her.

Koyori Tanemura (Voiced by: Hitomi Owada)

A class representative in Hana’s class. She wants to be someone who is reliable, but due to her clumsiness and childish nature she is quite unreliable.

Kanon Konomori (Voiced by: Naomi Ozora)

A class representative in Hana’s class. She is quiet and tolerant of others. She is also skilled at everything, in particular making sweets, which Miyako sometimes asks for her help with. Compared to Koyori she is quite reliable. She likes cute clothes but has no compulsion to dress up in cosplay for Miyako due to being embarrassed about having pictures taken of her.

Koko Matsumoto

Koko went to high school with Miyako and was in the same club together. She became fixated on Miyako during her second year of high school and has been obsessed with her ever since. She stalks Miyako on a daily basis and even grew out her hair to look more like her.
