Mob Psycho 100 II video 1

Alternate Title

モブサイコ100 II

Synopsis

Mob Psycho 100 follows the life of Shigeo Kageyama AKA Mob, a seemingly mundane eighth grader who also happens to be an ultra-powerful psychic. In the first season of the series, Mob meets his mentor, Arataka Reigen. While Reigen is very weak psychically, he’s so charismatic that he convinces Mob into thinking he’s far stronger than his mentee. Together, they battle other ESPers while Mob struggles to control his emotions. When Mob’s emotional state reaches 100%, he is overcome by a new dark and boundless form of his psychic ability.

In the trailer for Mob Psycho 100 II, we see Mob exploring a relationship with his crush. Such an important romantic relationship will come with a surge of emotions, some that may be too much for young Mob to control. The new season also introduces new baddies with terrible abilities, meaning Mob will have to unleash some of his greatest psychic attacks yet if he wants to win.

Background

Mob Psycho 100 began as a webcomic by ONE (One Punch Man) published starting in April 2012 on Ura Sunday. It went on to win the 62nd Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shonen category. The manga has been released in collected tankobon volumes by Shogakukan with the final 16th volume published in December 2017. Dark Horse Comics have licensed the series for English serialization in North America.

The first season of the anime adaptation was announced via Ura Sunday in December 2015. Produced by Bones, the staff included Yuzuru Tachikawa as director, Hiroshi Seko as scriptwriter, Yoshimichi Kameda as character designer, and Kenji Kawai as music composer. The series aired in Japan between July and September 2016, and was simulcast overseas by Crunchyroll with a simuldub broadcast by Funimation. The series’ opening theme song was “99” by Mob Choir, while the ending theme was “Refrain Boy” by ALL OFF.

The second season of the anime adaptation was first announced at the end of a special event anime titled “Mob Psycho 100 Reigen -The Miraculous Unknown Psychic-” in March 2018. The staff and cast from the first season are returning to reprise their roles. The world premiere of the anime took place during a special event held at Anime NYC in November 2018. The anime will premiere in Japan in January 2019 and once again be simulcast by Crunchyroll.

Aside from the anime, the series has also been adapted into a live-action television drama directed by Koichi Sakamoto and produced by Fuminori Kobayashi that aired in Japan in early 2018 on TV Tokyo and Netflix.

Arataka Reigen (Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai (Japanese), Chris Noisi (English))

Reigen is Mob’s charismatic master, although he doesn’t really have psychic ability. He runs the Talk About Spirits Agency and is a skilled con artist. While he may take advantage of Mob’s abilities to take down other ESPers, he genuinely cares about Mob’s emotional struggles.

He loses the fight, and the two patch up their relationship.

Teruki Hanazawa (Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Japanese), Erik Scott Kimerer (English))
