Synopsis

BanG Dream! 2nd Season continues where the first season left off. The band members of Poppin’ Party are riding high on the popularity of their first performance where they received a warm reception. In Season 1, Kasumi and the other girls of Poppin’ Party had to face many obstacles in forming their band, and the new season will dive deeper into their individual stories. The 2nd season will include more amazing performances and feature the other bands in the series.

Background

BanG Dream! is a multimedia franchise created by Bushiroad in 2015 that spans music, manga, anime, and a video game. The franchise began with the formation of the music group Poppin’ Party in 2015. Since then, several other music groups have been created for the franchise including Afterglow, PastelPalettes, Roselia, Hello, Happy World, and GlitterGreen, each of which has released a plethora of singles including "Yes! BanG_Dream!," "Tokimeki Experience!," and "Black Shout."

A mobile rhythm tapping game titled BanG Dream! Girls Band Party developed by Craft Egg and published by Bushimo for Android and iOS was released in March 2017 in Japan and April 2018 globally.

Several manga series based on the franchise have been published including BanG Dream! Star Beat by Aya Ishida serialized in Bushiroad’s Monthly Bushiroad, BanG Dream! by Mami Kashiwabara also serialized in Monthly Bushiroad, BanG Dream! Yonkoma Bandori! by Hakuto Shiroi serialized in ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki G’s Comic magazine, BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! Roselia Stage by Pepako Dokuta published in two volumes by Overlap, and Ban Ban Dori Dori by Nyaromeron published by Shogakukan. A light novel written by Ko Nakamura and illustrated by Hitowa was also published by Kadokawa in August 2016.

The first season of the anime adaptation was produced by Issen and Xebec and aired in Japan from January to April 2017 on Tokyo MX, running for 13 episodes total. The anime was streamed on both Anime Network and Crunchyroll as it aired in Japan, and Sentai Filmworks have licensed the anime in North America. Its opening and ending theme songs are “Tokimeki Experience” and “Sparkling Dreaming Sing Girls” by Poppin’ Party. The second season scheduled to premiere in January 2019 is being produced by Sanzigen. Its opening theme will be “Kizuna Music” by Poppin’ Party and its ending theme will be “Brave Jewel” by Roselia. A third season has also been announced by Sanzigen and will premiere in October 2019.

Aside from the main anime, two spin-off anime have also aired: Pastel Life from Studio A-Cat which ran from May to June 2018 on Tokyo MX, and BanG Dream! Girls Band Party! Pico from Sanzigen and DMM Futureworks which is currently running on Tokyo MX and Sun TV.

Characters

Poppin’ Party

Kasumi Toyama (Voiced by: Aimi Terakawa)

The main protagonist of the story. Toyama is a first-year high school student who does vocals and plays rhythm guitar. She’s the cheerful and positive type.

Tae Hanazono (Voiced by: Sae Otsuka)

A first-year student and lead guitarist for her band. She’s chill but very perceptive. Her nickname is O-tae and she loves rabbits.

Rimi Ushigome (Voiced by: Rimi Nishimoto)

Rimi is a bass guitarist. She’s somewhat shy and reserved. She loves her older sister, Yuri Ushigome. Her nickname is Rimi-rin.

Saya Yamabuki (Voiced by: Ayaka Ohashi)

The drummer for Poppin’ Party. She’s a big-sister type who takes care of the other members when they go through tough times. She’s very kind and hardworking.

Arisa Ichigaya (Voiced by: Ayasa Ito)

Arisa is the band’s keyboardist. She’s argumentative and admits to being lazy sometimes, but she also gets good grades in school. The band usually practices in her basement. Her nickname is Aa-chan.

Afterglow

Ran Mitake (Voiced by: Ayane Sakura)

A competitive first-year high school student and guitarist. She starts Afterglow in an attempt to rebel against her father. She acts aloof to hide her loneliness.

Moca Aoba (Voiced by: Sachika Misawa)

A first-year student at Haneoka Girls’ High School and the second guitarist of Afterglow. She is especially close friends with Ran and loves getting manga and a steamy bun from the Yamabuki Bakery. She calls herself “Moca-chan” when she’s feeling confident.

Tomoe Udagawa (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)

A laid-back drummer and first-year high school student. She never holds grudges against others. Her nickname is Tomo-chin.

Himari Uehara (Voiced by: Emiri Kato)

The leader and bass guitarist of Afterglow. She’s very feminine and loves tear-jerkers. Her nickname is Hii-chan.

Tsugumi Hazawa (Voiced by: Hisako Kanemoto)

A first-year student and keyboardists. She’s called Tsugu by her friends. Her optimism drives her bandmates to challenge themselves more.

Pastel Palettes

Aya Maruyama (Voiced by: Ami Maeshima)

A cheerful second-year high school student. She’s a vocal singer who has always loved idols. She’s obsessed with being noticed.

Hina Hikawa (Voiced by: Ari Ozawa)

A second-year high school student and twin sister to Sayo Hikawa. She loves her sister and always wants to do activities with her. She’s a natural genius and plays guitar.

Chisato Shirasagi (Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka)

Chisato is a bassist and second-year high school student. She has worked in the entertainment industry for several years. She’s polite but can come off as blunt or cold sometimes.

Maya Yamato (Voiced by: Ikumi Nakagami)

Maya is the drummer of Pastel Palettes. She’s a tomboy who can be awkward around people. She’s much more comfortable around instruments. She has a unique laugh.

Eve Wakamiya (Voiced by: Sawako Hata)

A half-Japanese, half-Finnish first-year high school student. Eve is excited to learn new things about Japan. She’s energetic and always does her best.

Roselia

Yukina Minato (Voiced by: Aina Aiba)

A vocalist and second-year high school student. She is a rival of Ran Mitake. She can be cold and cruel to someone who does not meet her expectations.

Sayo Hikawa (Voiced by: Haruka Kudo)

A second-year student, guitarist, and twin sister to Hina Hikawa. She has an inferiority complex about her sister and tends to take things too seriously.

Lisa Imai (Voiced by: Yurika Endo, Yuki Nakashima)

Lisa is a second-year student and bassist of Roselia. She loves gyaru fashion and does a good job at keeping her band together.

Ako Udagawa (Voiced by: Megu Sakuragawa)

Ako is a third-year in middle school. She’s the drummer for her band, loves online gaming, and has a case of chuunibyou.

Rinko Shirokane (Voiced by: Satomi Akesaka)

Rinko, or Rin-rin, is an extremely shy and awkward second-year high school student. She’s a keyboardist but she’s scared to perform on stage. She makes the outfits for Roselia.

Hello, Happy World!

Kokoro Tsurumaki (Voiced by: Miku Ito)

A first-year student in high school, leader of her band, and a vocalist. She’s very charismatic and does her best to create positivity around her.

Kaoru Seta (Voiced by: Azusa Tadokoro)

Kaoru is a second-year student who is very extravagant and dramatic. She considers herself a prince to girls and is very popular with them. She plays guitar.

Kanon Matsubara (Voiced by: Moe Toyota)

Kanon is a second-year student. She plays the drums for her band. She often gets nervous and is easily overwhelmed. But she’s good at keeping her band together.

Hagumi Kitazawa (Voiced by: Yuri Yoshida)

Hagumi is a friendly girl who treats her bandmates with familiarity. She’s a first-year bassist who loves playing sports.

Misaki Okusawa (Voiced by: Tomoyo Kurosawa)

Nick-named Mii-chan, she’s a first-year student, composer, and DJ. She’s often sarcastic towards her more animated bandmates.

Other Characters

Ririko Matsugi (Voiced by: Yuko Gibu)

An employee at the live house Space. She is able to converse with the owner Shifune without hesitation.

Asuka Toyama (Voiced by: Yuka Ozaki)

Kasumi’s sister and a member of her school’s swimming club.

Yuri Ushigome (Voiced by: Suzuko Mimori)

Rimi’s older sister, a vocalist, and a guitarist for a band called Glitter Green.

Hinako Nujikki (Voiced by: Sora Tokui)

Glitter Green’s drummer and a member of the student council.

Rii Uzawa (Voiced by: Izumi Kitta)

Like Yuri and Hinako, she’s a third-year high school student and member of Glitter Green. She’s also a student council member and a salesperson at Edogawa Music..

Nanana Wanibe (Voiced by: Mikoi Sasaki)

Student council president and keyboardist for Glitter Green.
