Synopsis
It’s never a dull moment for Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Pirates when they are invited to a special festival called the Pirate Festival: the greatest gathering of the world’s best pirates, by pirates, for pirates. They are greeted at the festival by the Master of Festivities, Buena Festa, and find themselves in good company with countless pirates from all over the world all vying to claim Gol D. Roger’s treasure. But Luffy and the gang soon find themselves wrapped up in a conspiracy.
Background
One Piece: Stampede is the 14th film in the One Piece anime franchise adapted from Eiichiro Oda’s original manga series. The film commemorates the anime’s 20th anniversary and is being directed by Takashi Otsuka at Toei Animation with an original story by Oda, Atsuhiro Tomioka, and Takashi Otsuka, and character designs by Masayuki Sato. Oda is also acting as creative supervisor and character designer for the antagonists. The film’s theme song is “Gong” by Wanima. The film will open in theaters in Japan on Aug. 9, 2019.
Characters
Monkey D. Luffy (Voiced by: Mayumi Tanaka)
The leader of the Straw Hat Pirates, Luffy’s dream is to find the One Piece and become the King of the Pirates. He has elastic abilities due to eating the Gum-Gum Fruit.
Roronoa Zoro (Voiced by: Kazuya Nakai)
Zoro is a master swordsman known for using three swords, one in each hand and one in his mouth. His goal is to surpass "Hawk Eye" Mihawk as the world’s greatest swordsman, and he travels the seas in search of Mihawk as a bounty hunter infamously known as “Pirate Hunter” Zoro. After being incarcerated by Helmeppo and scheduled for execution, he is saved by Luffy and becomes his first crewman.
Nami (Voiced by: Akemi Okamura)
A skilled cartographer who dreams of completing a map of the world, Nami joined Arlong’s pirate crew after her mother was killed by Arlong in exchange for the safety of the rest of her village, which Arlong’s crew regularly terrorized. As such, she grew up hating pirates and became skilled at stealing from other pirates, earning her the nickname “Cat Burglar” Nami. She joins the Straw Hat Pirates after Arlong betrays her and his crew is defeated.
Usopp (Voiced by: Kappei Yamaguchi)
An excellent inventor, painter, and sculptor, Usopp uses a distinct fighting style that combines his inventions with different types of ammunition called the “Usopp Arsenal.” As a member of the Straw Hat Pirates, he gained notoriety as "Sniper King, the King of Snipers" with the crew’s rescue of Nico Robin, and after the crew liberates Dressrosa from Don Quixote Doflamingo's rule he becomes known as “God” Usopp.
Vinsmoke Sanji (Voiced by: Hiroaki Hirata)
A prince of Germa Kingdom, Sanji led a troubled childhood of ridicule and shame, and fled the kingdom once he was able. Fate would bring him and infamous pirate “Red Foot” Zeff together over a common bond: they both dream of finding the All Blue. Zeff teaches Sanji how to become a top chef and also teaches him his kick-based fighting style, which he uses to protect his hands for cooking. His uncommon fighting style would soon make him infamous under the name "Black Leg" Sanji.
Tony Tony Chopper (Voiced by: Ikue Ohtani)
A blue-nosed reindeer and the Straw Hat Pirates’ doctor, Chopper has the power of the Human-Human Fruit which enables him to take on a full reindeer form or the form of a reindeer-human hybrid. He is also capable of even more transformations using a drug he developed called “Rumble Ball.”
Nico Robin (Voiced by: Yuriko Yamaguchi)
A talented archaeologist, Robin has the power of the Flower-Flower Fruit which enables her to copy parts of her body and manifest them on different surfaces. A power she uses behind her teachers’ backs to gain the knowledge of how to translate ancient stones called Ponegliffs. She then makes it her goal of finding the Real Ponegliff which is hidden somewhere in the world and is said to contain the entire history of the world. Her family is killed and home destroyed by the World Government after they learn of her intention, and she begins traveling the world on the run with a bounty on her head.
Franky (Voiced by: Kazuki Yao)
Abandoned by his pirate family when just a kid, Cutty Flam aka Franky becomes an apprentice under the shipwright Tom, who built Pirate King Gol D Roger's ship Oro Jackson and also created plans for a powerful ancient weapon. During a raid by the World Government who comes to learn of the weapon, Franky is severely injured trying to save his mentor and lives only by rebuilding parts of his body using scrap parts, becoming a cyborg with superhuman strength and earning him the nickname "Cyborg" Franky. Dreaming of one day sailing around the world in a ship he built, he builds the Thousand Sunny and joins the Straw Hat Pirates.
Brook (Voiced by: Cho)
Initially a vice-captain in the pirate crew the Rumbar Pirates, Brook and his crew are annihilated while at sea. However, having the power of the Revive-Revive Fruit, Brook is brought back to life as a skeleton, earning him the nickname "Dead Bones" Brook. He is an excellent musician and can even lull people to sleep with his music. He joins the Straw Hat Pirates with the goal of fulfilling his late crew’s mission of sailing around the world.
Trafalgar Law (Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya)
Known as the "Surgeon of Death," Trafalgar D. Water Law has the power of the Op-Op Fruit, which enables him to cut and teleport objects as well as body swap within a certain diameter around him. Originally a member of the Donquixote Family, he joins the Seven Warlords of the Sea after making a name for himself. He later allies himself with Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates under false pretenses as he tries to hunt down Donquixote Doflamingo.
Smoker (Voiced by: Mahito Oba)
Known as "White Chase" Smoker, Smoker is an avid cigar enthusiast and naval officer who always has two cigars in his mouth and plenty of spares affixed to his jacket. He has the power of the Smoke-Smoke Fruit which enables him to manipulate, create, and transform into smoke. He fights using a jutte tipped with sea-prism stone.
Tashigi (Voiced by: Junko Noda)
Smoker's second in command, Tashigi is a naval officer who, although a skilled swordswoman, is often clumsy. Her goal is to find all meito (prestigious swords of historical significance) and take them from those who would use them for their own ends.
Buggy (Voiced by: Shigeru Chiba)
Once a junior member of the Roger Pirates, Buggy has a clownish appearance with a big red nose and is obsessed with knives and cannons. He has the power of the Chop-Chop Fruit which allows him to separate his body into levitating parts and control them - a power that also makes him immune to sword cuts in battle. After the Roger Pirates dissolve he becomes the captain of his own crew, the Buggy Pirates, and achieves notoriety under the name "Buggy the Clown." His exploits would eventually land him a seat as one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
Galdino (Voiced by: Nobuyuki Hiyama)
Better known as Mr. 3, Galdino has the power of the Wax-Wax Fruit which allows him to create and control candle wax.
Alvida (Voiced by: Yoko Matsuoka)
"Iron Mace" Alvida is the captain of the Alvida Pirates, whom Luffy and crew encounter early on in their journey. She later forges an alliance with Buggy and the two create the underworld organization known as Buggy's Delivery.
Mohji (Voiced by: Shigenori Soya)
“Beast Tamer” Mohji is an animal tamer and first mate of the Buggy Pirates. He is usually always accompanied by his pet lion, Richie. Though he is agile and skilled with a whip, he usually has Richie fight on his behalf in battle.
Cabaji (Voiced by: Endo Moriya)
“Acrobat” Cabaji is the Buggy Pirates Chief of Staff and a member of Buggy’s Delivery. Skilled in acrobatic fighting, he rides a unicycle and uses a combination of swordplay and acrobatics in battle, relying on daggers, swords, razor-sharp spinning tops, and flame breath. He is also skilled in hand-to-hand combat thanks to his impressive strength.
Richie (Voiced by: Tetsu Inada)
Mohji’s pet lion and a member of the Buggy Pirates and later Buggy’s Delivery, though fearsome in battle he acts like a kitten outside of battle and thinks mostly of food.
Boa Hancock (Voiced by: Kotono Mitsuishi)
A member of the all-female Kuja Tribe from the island of Amazon Lily, Boa and her sisters were sold into slavery as young girls after having been forcibly feed Devil Fruits. After being rescued by Fisher Tiger, Boa and her sister return to their tribe and Boa becomes their leader, thereafter referred to by her subjects as "Snake Princess." As the leader of the Kuja Pirates, Boa earns a name for herself as "Pirate Empress" and is soon offered a seat as one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. She has the power of the Love-Love Fruit which enables her to turn to stone anyone whom she charms.
Dracule Mihawk (Voiced by: Hirohiko Kakegawa)
Dracule "Hawk-Eye" Mihawk is the world’s greatest swordsman and one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. A man of pale complection, he travels in a small boat shaped like a coffin.
Crocodile (Voiced by: Ryuzaburo Otomo)
Originally a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Sir Crocodile’s title is revoked when it’s found out that he is actually the head of the criminal organization Baroque Works under the code name Mr. 0. He has the power of the Sand-Sand Fruit, which enables him to control sand, absorb moisture with his right hand, and turn his body into sand.
Perona (Voiced by: Kumiko Nishihara)
A former member of the Thriller Bark Pirates and one of the Mysterious Four, "Ghost Princess" Perona has the powers of the Hollow-Hollow Fruit, which allows her to summon ghosts that drain the life force of anyone they touch as well as can form a “Ghost Network” which she uses for surveillance, and even explode. She is also able to astral project out of her body and can move through walls in this form.
Sakazuki (Voiced by: Fumihiko Tachiki)
Better known as Admiral Akainu, Sakazuki is a ruthless naval officer. He has the power of the Mag-Mag Fruit, which allows him to create, control, and transform into magma.
Sengoku (Voiced by: Toru Okawa)
Known as "Sengoku the Buddha," Sengoku is a naval officer and later fleet admiral. He has the power of the Human-Human Fruit, which allows him to transform into a giant statue of the Buddha.
Borsalino (Voiced by: Ryotaro Okiayu)
Also known as Admiral Kizaru, Borsalino is a naval officer with the power of the Glint-Glint Fruit, which allows him to transform into light and shoot powerful beams.
Issho (Voiced by: Ikuya Sawaki)
Also known by his alias Fujitora, Issho is a marine admiral with the second highest rank in the entire Marine organization, just under Fleet Admiral Sakazuki. Despite being blind, he is considered one of the strongest fighters in the World Government.
**Monkey D. Garp ** (Voiced by: Hiroshi Naka)
Nicknamed Garp the "Fist" and "Hero of the Navy," Garp is Monkey D. Dragon’s father and Luffy’s grandfather. He has superhuman strength and, as a vice admiral, he is considered a hero for capturing Roger.
Koby (Voiced by: Mika Doi)
The first friend Luffy makes on his journey, Koby was a deckhand on Alvida’s ship until he decides to escape and join the Navy, where he is taken under the wing of Vice Admiral Garp along with Helmeppo. He would go on to become a captain in the Navy.
Helmeppo (Voiced by: Koichi Nagano)
Helmeppo came from a family of wealth and power, his father being a corrupt Navy captain. But after his father’s arrest he reluctantly joins the Navy and is taken under the wing of Vice Admiral Garp along with Koby.
Hina (Voiced by: Tomoko Naka)
Known as "Black Cage" Hina, Hina is a Navy officer and a long time friend of Smoker. She is very perceptive and has the power of the Cage-Cage Fruit, which allows her to restrain opponents in iron shackles using her body and also to extend her arms to form a cage.
Fullbody (Voiced by: Hideo Ishikawa)
Nicknamed "Double Ironfist," Fullbody is a Navy officer under Captain Hina. Though he doesn’t possess any unique abilities, he is an adept fighter who uses a style similar to boxing.
Jango (Voiced by: Kazuki Yao)
"Double-crosser” Jango is a hypnotist and friend to Fullbody, eventually joining him in the Navy. Though a skilled fighter, he is still much weaker than most. He gained his powers of hypnotism after eating a mushroom that grew on his chin. The pendulum he uses during hypnosis doubles as a weapon similar to a chakram.
Sentomaru (Voiced by: Kazue Ikura)
Sentomaru is Vegapunk’s bodyguard and the captain of the Marine’s Science Unit. Large in stature, his fighting style is similar to sumo wrestling and despite his large size he is actually quite quick and agile.
Rob Lucci (Voiced by: Tomokazu Seki)
Rob Lucci is a member of CP-0 and formerly the strongest member of CP9. He often talks through his pet parrot, Hattori, who is always on his shoulder. He has superhuman physicality due to years of extreme training in the Rokushiki martial arts and he is also an excellent tactician.
Wapol (Voiced by: Bin Shimada)
The former King of Drum Island and the leader of the Wapol Pirates, Wapol has the power of the Munch-Munch Fruit, which enables him to eat virtually anything and take on its properties.
Sabo (Voiced by: Toru Furuya)
The sworn brother to Luffy and Ace, Sabo is the chief of staff of the Revolutionary Army. After Ace’s death he becomes determined to find Ace’s Devil Fruit, the Flame-Flame Fruit, in order to inherit Ace’s will.
Koala (Voiced by: Satsuki Yukino)
A former slave who was set free during Fisher Tiger's rampage on Mary Geoise, Koala originally sailed with the Sun Pirates and later became an assistant instructor of Fish-Man Karate and an officer in the Revolutionary Army where she works alongside Sabo.
Gol D. Roger (Voiced by: Masane Tsukayama)
The King of the Pirates, Roger gained worldwide infamy as the captain of the Roger Pirates. After being captured by the World Government, he declares that his treasure, the One Piece, is up for grabs, setting into motion the "Great Pirate Era." He was the original owner of Luffy’s straw hat, which fell into Shanks’ possession after his death and eventually was given to Luffy. It is said that him and his crew had the ability to hear "the voice of all things", which allowed them to learn the secret history of the world.
Marshall D. Teach (Voiced by: Akio Otsuka)
Better known as Blackbeard, Marshall is the captain of the Blackbeard Pirates and a former member of the Whitebeard Pirates. He has the power of the Dark-Dark Fruit, which allows him to create and control black holes.
Eustass Kidd (Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa)
Eustass is a notorious pirate and captain of the Kid Pirates. He is one of the 12 that make up the "Worst Generation." Him and his crew and known for leaving a wake of destruction in their path. Kidd’s Devil Fruit allows him to control metal like a magnet and use it as a weapon.
Killer (Voiced by: Kenji Hamada)
Nicknamed "Massacre Soldier," Killer is a member of the Kidd Pirates and one of the 12 that make up the "Worst Generation." He is agile and strong in combat, using scythe-like weapons for attack and defense. After eating a SMILE, he becomes an assassin working for Kurozumi Orochi under the alias Kamazo the Manslayer.
Jewelry Bonney (Voiced by: Reiko Kiuchi)
Known as "Big Eater," Bonney is a pirate and captain of the Bonney Pirates. She is one of the 12 pirates known as the “Worst Generation.” For some reason she is able to eat copious amounts of food without ever becoming full or gaining weight. She has the powers of an unknown Devil Fruit that allows her alter the age of herself and others.
Capone Bege (Voiced by: Naoki Tatsuta)
A mafia don turned pirate and the captain of the Fire Tank Pirates, Bege is one of the 12 pirates known as the “Worst Generation.” He has an excellent sense of awareness and is a master strategist, which he uses in battle instead of fighting physically.
Basil Hawkins (Voiced by: Shigenori Soya)
Known as "Magician," Basil is a pirate and the captain of the Hawkins Pirates as well as one of the 12 pirates known as the “Worst Generation.” He uses fortune telling and tarot cards to predict the outcome of events. He also uses his tarot cards in battle, though he has just as much a chance to draw a card that will be detrimental to himself as he does one that will be beneficial.
Scratchmen Apoo (Voiced by: Mitsuaki Madono)
Known as "Roar of the Sea," Apoo is a pirate and the captain of the On Air Pirates. He is one of the 12 pirates known as the “Worst Generation.” He has excellent musical capabilities and his Devil Fruit allows him to transform any part of his body into a musical instrument. His manifested instruments can do damage to opponents in battle depending on the notes that he plays.
Urouge (Voiced by: Taiten Kusunoki)
Also known as Mad Monk, Urouge is a pirate and the captain of the Fallen Monk Pirates. He is also one of the 12 pirates known as the “Worst Generation.” He is enormously powerful and his Devil Fruit allows him to convert physical damage he takes into strength, bulking up his muscles even more.
X Drake (Voiced by: Eiji Takemoto)
Also known as "Red Flag," X Drake is a former rear admiral turned pirate and captain of the Drake Pirates. He is also one of the 12 pirates known as the “Worst Generation.” His Devil Fruit, the Dragon-Dragon Fruit, allows him to transform into an allosaurus, making him more powerful than usual.
Bartolomeo (Voiced by: Showtaro Morikubo)
Nicknamed “Cannibal,” Bartolomeo is the captain of the Barto Club and the commander of the 2nd division of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. He pledged his allegiance to Luffy after competing with him at the Corrida Colosseum. He has the powers of the Barrier-Barrier Fruit, which allows him to create seemingly indestructible barriers that can be used for both defense and offense.
Cavendish (Voiced by: Akira Ishida)
Also known as the "Pirate Prince," Cavendish is a famous Super Rookie and the captain of the Beautiful Pirates. He pledges his loyalty to Monkey D. Luffy and becomes the 1st division commander of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet after competing at the Corrida Colosseum. He has a bloodthirsty lunatic double personality known as Hakuba which comes out when his dominant personality is asleep. Before being exiled he was the prince of the Bourgeois Kingdom. He is extremely powerful though he has never eaten a Devil Fruit, and his beauty can make women faint with just a look.
Foxy (Voiced by: Bin Shimada)
Nicknamed “Silver Fox,” Foxy is the captain of the Foxy Pirates. A cheater and trickster, Foxy has impressive cunning and an extraordinary sense of time. He has the powers of the Slow-Slow Fruit, which allows him to fire beams of light that can slow down enemies and other objects for 30 seconds. In battle he also uses contraptions including a giant mechanical punching machine called Gorilla Puncher #13 and a giant ball launcher called Dead Hit-kun.
Porche (Voiced by: Sara Nakayama)
Porche is a member of the Foxy Pirates. She is idolized and worshiped by all her male crewmates. In battle she uses her Cutie Baton which shoots shurikens covered in flowers.
Hamburg (Voiced by: Hirohiko Kakegawa)
A member of the Foxy Pirates and also the leader of the Groggy Monsters, Hamburg has a gorilla-like appearance and the intelligence to match. He is a fearsome fighter and often attacks in coordination with the rest of the Groggy Monsters to overwhelm his opponents.
