Synopsis
In 2063, space travel is a common occurrence for humankind. A small group of Caird High School students make a trip to Planetary Camp on the planet McPa. Although they land successfully, they are soon beamed by a strange light that transports them into the void of space, orbiting an unknown planet.
Eventually, the group, known as Group B-5, is able to reach the planet and discover an abandoned spacecraft. Naming it Astra, the kids use this ship to jump to alien planets and gather the necessary resources to make it home, encountering unexpected surprises and revelations throughout their journey.
Background
Astra Lost in Space originated as a manga by Kento Shinohara. It was serialized from May 2016 to December 2017 as an online comic by Shonen Jump. The series has since then been collected into five tankobon volumes and licensed by Viz Media. Studio Lerche is producing an anime series that will premiere in July 2019. Helming the project is director Masaomi Ando who has previously worked on Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse and The Girl Who Leapt Through Space.
Characters
Kanata Hoshijima (Voiced by: Yoshimasa Hosoya)
The male leader of Group B-5. Kanata wears a mostly red outfit with blue accents and has a small scar on his nose. He is willing to sacrifice himself or take risks to save others.
Aries Spring (Voiced by: Inori Minase)
A cheerful female member of Group B-5 who had recently transferred into Caird High. She has short pink hair, and each of her eyes are different colors - one is yellow and one is green. She can be forgetful, spazzy, and random at times. Her suit is mostly white with a pink motif.
Quitterie Raffaëlli
Quitterie is a female member of Group B-5. She is an overachiever and intelligent, but she is also quick-tempered and anti-social. Quitterie has long blonde hair that she ties up in a ponytail and tanned skin. Her suit is a combination of white, pink, and green.
Funicia Raffaëlli
The younger sister of Quitterie who looks like a younger version of her, right down to the color of her eyes and the style of her blonde hair. She is polite but sometimes speaks through a puppet named Beego, who curses like a sailor.
Zack Walker
Zack is a male member of Group B-5. He has short white hair and glasses. His suit is comprised of different shades of blue. He is intelligent and analytical.
Luca Esposito
Luca is a male member of Group B-5 with a strong sense of curiosity. He is easily distracted. Luca has almost shoulder-length indigo hair and wears a neon green and blue suit. His stature is smaller than Zack’s or Kanata’s.
Charce Lacroix
A male member of Group B-5 who loves aliens. He has thick, shaggy blonde hair and wears a purple and white suit. Although friendly and lighthearted on the surface, deep down he feels worthless.
Ulgar Zweig
Ulgar is a male member of Group B-5. His hair is straight, black and messy to the point that it covers his eye. He wears a beanie on his head and a grey suit. He’s always telling others to shut up.
Yun-Hua Lu
A female member of Group B-5. She is quiet, disciplined and has been taught by her parents to shy away from attention. Her suit is a mix of purples and blues.
