“Hibiki...did you get fat again?”
These callous words pierced the heart of Hibiki Sakura, a high school girl who loves to eat. Hibiki becomes determined to diet and get in shape by summer vacation. However, she quickly realizes that she can’t do it alone - she needs a workout buddy! Luckily she happens upon a training gym, and even better the cool, charismatic student council president of her school and fellow classmate, Akemi Soryuin, trains there too! With that, Hibiki takes her first steps into the intense yet enjoyable world of weight training!


How Much Heavy Dumbbells Can You Lift? began as a manga series written by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by MAAM that has been serialized in Shogakukan's Ura Sunday website and MangaONE app since 2016. As of January 2019, six tankobon volumes have been published. The manga is licensed in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment.

An anime adaptation was announced in January 2019 and will premiere in July. The anime is being directed by Mitsue Yamazaki at Doga Kobo with Fumihiko Shimo handling series composition and Ai Kikuchi handling character designs.


Hibiki Sakura (Voiced by: Ai Fairouz)

A second-year student at Kouyo Girls’ Academy who loves to eat, Hibiki is a cheerful and innocent girl. She joins a gym in order to lose weight after her friend Ayaka points out that she had been getting fat. She is currently looking for a boyfriend.

Akemi Soryuin (Voiced by: Sora Amamiya)

A classmate of Hibiki’s, Akemi is the charismatic student council president and chosen Kouyo Girls’ Academy Queen for two years running. She comes from a very rich family, is at the top of her class, accels in sports, is polite, kind-hearted - basically perfect. But there’s just one thing: she’s got a serious fetish for muscles.

Zina Void (Voiced by: Nao Toyama)

A second-year student at Kremlin West High School, Zina is originally from Russia where she studied self-defense. She has a reputation but also the skills to back it up, having ranked fifth in the Moscow Arm Wrestling Championship. She is well-versed in Japanese culture and can speak Japanese fluently, but she can still be very stubborn.

Ayaka Uehara (Voiced by: Shizuka Ishigami)

A close friend of Hibiki’s, Ayaka is friendly and sensible. After school she often hangs out with Hibiki trying different restaurants or going to see movies. She is a huge fan of Dogegen Chonegger along with Hibiki.

Satomi Tachibana (Voiced by: Yui Horie)

Satomi is 29 and teaches world history at Kouyo Girls’ Academy. She has a sharp intellect and striking beauty. But still, she worries about putting on extra weight and begins going to a gym close to the school. However, she is ever fearful that she will be found out and her secret exposed.
