Synopsis
Oda Nobunaga - one of the most fearsome warlords of the Warring States period. But before he would go on to try and rule Japan, he was a teenager constantly competing with his younger brother, Nobuyuki. Together with his faithful followers, he will face betrayals, battles, and other struggles while forging bonds and alliances on his path to become a powerful and famous warlord in this bold interpretation of his youth.
Background
Kochoki -Wakaki Nobunaga- is an original anime exploring the youth of famous Japanese historical figure Oda Nobunaga. The anime reunites the staff of Hakuoki with Noriyuki Abe directing at Studio DEEN, Ryota Yamaguchi composing the series, Megumu Sasano and Kaoru Sawada writing the scripts, and Atsuko Nakajima designing the characters. The anime’s ending theme song will be “Kiba to Tsubasa” by May’n. The anime will premiere in Japan in July 2019 and will be simulcast overseas by Funimation.
A novel adaptation that serves as both a prequel and spin-off was launched by author Sasano in Takuma Shoten’s Animage magazine in January.
Characters
Oda Nobunaga (Voiced by: Yusuke Kobayashi)
Oda Nobuhide’s eldest son and an Owari daimyo, Nobunaga was given the childhood nickname Kipposhi, and throughout childhood was known for his bizarre behavior, earning him the name Outsuke (Big Fool). He has a strong intellectual curiosity and a fondness for foreign rarities, especially firearms.
Ikeda Tsuneoki (Voiced by: Yuma Uchida)
One of Oda Nobuhide’s retainers and Ikeda Tsunetoshi’s son, Tsuneoki was raised together with Nobunaga as if they were actual brothers, but in reality they are foster brothers. Tsunoeki has a serious and polite demeanor. He thinks of Nobunaga more than anything else, always worried about his wild nature.
Oda Nobuyuki (Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa)
Nobunaga’s younger brother, Nobuyuki is polite and well-mannered. He deeply trusts his vassals but is painfully aware that he is next in line to head the family. He has adored his free-spirited younger brother since childhood.
Kicho (Voiced by: Yumiri Hanamori)
Saito Dosan’s daughter, Kicho is also called Lady of Mino and Nohime. Her beauty is known far and wide. She has a huge secret that she can’t tell anyone.
Maeda Toshiie (Voiced by: Takuma Terashima)
One of Nobunaga’s retainers and the fourth son of the Maeda household, Toshiie always has a cheerful and positive attitude but he’s also a flippant show-off who fails at times. He is trusted deeply by Nobunaga due to his frank character and is a master spearman.
Takugen Souon (Voiced by: Shinnosuke Tachibana)
A priest of the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism at the Myoshinji Temple, Souon is Nobuhide’s main retainer and becomes Nobunaga’s teacher at the request of Hirate Masahide. Souon is not only involved in the Oda household’s festivities and governmental affairs, he is also a diplomat who travels to other countries to conduct negotiations. His age is unknown and he has a suspicious air about him.
Takigawa Kazumasu (Voiced by: Junya Enoki)
One of Nobunaga’s retainers, Kazumasu has a deep knowledge of matchlock pistols and is a veteran who served Nobunaga since before he took over as head of the family. He is a famous daimyo who excels in both the literary and military arts with experience negotiating alliances. He is also counted among Nobunaga’s “Four Devas.”
Ohana (Voiced by: Manami Namakura)
Nobunaga’s older sister, Ohana is also known as Inuyama-dono. She has a cheerful personality and looks after the entire family, even Nobunaga who tends to keep to himself. She loves gossip and has a bit of an airheaded side to her, but she is protective of Nobunaga as his older sister.
Oichi (Voiced by: Nao Toyama)
Nobunaga’s younger sister, Oichi has a bright and kind personality, however she is conscious of the turbulent times she lives in and ends up marrying to benefit her older brother and family. She is famous for her unrivaled beauty.
Ikoma Kitsuno (Voiced by: Minori Suzuki)
Daughter of the wealthy Ikoma family that conducts trade in Owari, Kitsuno meets Nobunaga by chance after a long journey. She later becomes his concubine and births three children.
Sassa Narimasa (Voiced by: Makoto Takahashi)
One of Nobunaga’s retainers, Narimasa has a somewhat delinquent disposition. He has served Nobunaga since a young age and is a distinguished horseback samurai. He would later become an influential busho under Nobunaga.
Murai Sadakatsu (Voiced by: Tomoaki Maeno)
One of Nobunaga’s retainers, contrary to his appearance Sadakatsu has a keen political mind and was appointed to Nobunaga after ascending quickly through the ranks. After Nobunaga heads for the capital, he takes over the Oda family’s administration in Kyoto.
Tsuzuki Kurando (Voiced by: Satoshi Hino)
One of Oda Nobuyuki’s retainers, Kurando was originally Nobuyuki’s wakashu and was later appointed as a retainer along with Shibata Katsuie. He has a distinctive group of moles under his eyes.
