Synopsis
Space Era 796 - a battle breaks out between an expeditionary force of 30 million soldiers mobilized under the banner of the Free Planets Alliance and the fleets of the Galactic Empire under the command of Kaiser Reinhard. They sustain heavy loses, losing three of eight fleets. However, under orders from the high council they are to gather their remaining troops and fight on. Wanting nothing less than total victory, Reinhard attacks the Amristar Starzone where the FPA is gathering troops, thus beginning the Battle of Amritsar Starzone.
Background
A sequel to Legend of the Galactic Heroes Die Neue These, Seiran: Chapter 1 is the first of three films each of which will encompass four episodes. The films will be released in theaters in Japan on Sep. 27, Oct, 25, and Nov. 29, 2019, respectively. The films are being directed by Shunsuke Tada with series composition by Noboru Takagi and production by Production I.G. The ending theme song for the films is “Tranquility” by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Anly.
Characters
Reinhard von Lohengramm (Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano)
Reinhard is nicknamed “The Golden Brat” by his foes and “The Golden Lion” by his supporters. As a child, he became determined to overthrow the Goldenbaum Dynasty when his father is compelled to sell his sister into slavery. He joins the army at the age of 15 and quickly works his way up the ranks. A brilliant strategist with a charming personality, he quickly wins over capable soldiers to his side and is seen as a hero among the public. He becomes an admiral at 21 and not long after establishes the Lohengramm Dynasty. His flagship is called the Brünhild.
Yang Wen-li (Voiced by: Kenichi Suzumura)
Unlike Reinhard, Yang is humble and dislikes being in the spotlight. However, he becomes a national hero for his acts of bravery time and again, earning him the nickname "Hero of El Facil." His skill as a tactician rivals even that of Reinhard’s. He is mild-tempered and believes strongly in protecting democracy, sometimes to his disadvantage. His flagship is the Hyperion.
Siegfried Kircheis (Voiced by: Yuuichiro Umehara)
One of the two most important people in Reinhard's life, Siegfried offers Reinhard advice and helps him stay on the right path. He can usually always be found with Reinhard. He is also praised for his skill as a military commander. His flagship is the Barbarossa.
Julian Mintz (Voiced by: Yuuki Kaji)
The adopted teenage son of Yang Wen-li, Julian serves as Yang’s assistant before becoming a soldier and rising through the ranks to eventually become commander.
Paul von Oberstein (Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe)
One of Reinhard von Lohengramm's most efficient subordinates, Paul has cybernetic eyes and a cold, emotionless personality. He first serves as Reinhard's advisor and later becomes Minister of Military Affairs. Though a strategic genius, he struggles when human emotions are involved.
Wolfgang Mittermeyer (Voiced by: Daisuke Ono)
Wolfgang is best friends with Reuenthal and the two together are called "Twin Pillars of the Empire." He is also friends with Reinhard and served in his Fleet Admirals. His attacks are swift like the wind, earning him the nickname "The Gale Wolf.” His flagship is the Beowulf.
Oskar von Reuenthal (Voiced by: Yuichi Nakamura)
Nicknamed "Bewitching Eyes" for his heterochromia, Oskar is as intelligent as he is talented. He has unshakable loyalty to Reinhard. His flagship is the Tristan.
Annerose von Grunewald (Voiced by: Maaya Sakamoto)
Reinhard’s older sister, Annerose was sold by her father when she was young to Kaiser Friedrich IV as his imperial consort.
Alex Caselnes (Voiced by: Tokuyoshi Kawashima)
The Administrator of Iserlohn Fortress and an admiral in charge of logistics and supply.
Frederica Greenhill (Voiced by: Aya Endo)
Frederica first met Yang during the evacuation of El Facil, and she joined the military to find him again, eventually becomes his adjutant and later getting married.
Walter von Schenkopp (Voiced by: Shinichiro Miki)
Walter is the 13th Commander of the Yang fleet’s Rosenritter Regiment. Originally a member of the Galactic Reich, he defected to the Free Planets Alliance at a young age.
Olivier Poplin (Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki)
A Spartanian wing commander in the 13th fleet of the Free Planets Alliance under Yang. He becomes a friend and mentor to Julian.
Dusty Attenborough (Voiced by: Kaito Ishikawa)
An admiral serving in the 13th fleet of the Free Planets Alliance under Yang. He is a close friend of Yang’s and the youngest admiral in FPA history.
Narrator (Voiced by: Yoshimitsu Shimoyama)
