Synopsis

These three elementary school girls may just be kids, but they have a duty to protect their beloved Ueno! Yui, Sacchan, and Kotoha work day and night (or at least until it gets dark…) to protect their town as Colors, an organization dedicated to ensuring peace and safety within Ueno, and they operate from a secret base hidden in a corner of Ueno Park!

Background

Mitsuboshi Colors is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Katsuwo, also known for Hitoribocchi no ○○ Seikatsu and Kin no Tamago. It’s currently serialized in ASCII Media Works’ Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh. It was first released in 2014, and there are currently four volumes of the manga out.

The series follows the sweet and funny everyday lives of the “Colors,” a group consisting of Yui Akamatsu, Sacchan, and Kotoha as they “protect the peace of their city” which actually mostly just consists of playing games and going to the zoo while occasionally getting in trouble with the local officer, Saitou.

Anime Adaptation

An anime adaptation of the manga directed by Tomoyuki Kawamura (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, Natsume’s Book of Friends) and produced by the studio Silver Link (The Ancient Magus’ Bride, Eccentric Family) was announced at Dengeki Comic Festival 2017 in March 2017, and the season includes 12 episodes which began airing on Jan. 7, 2018.

The adaptation’s series composition is written by Shougo Yasukawa (Food Wars!, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) with different directors and storyboarders for each episode, and the music is composed by Michiru (Izetta: The Last Witch, Kokekko-san).

Yuuki Takada, Marika Kouno, and Natsumi Hioka (the starring voice actresses behind Yui, Marika, and Natsumi respectively) perform both the opening theme, “Colors Power ni Omakasero!,” and ending theme, “Mitsuboshi Colors ☆ Honjitsu mo Ijou Nashi,” as Colors☆Slash.
