Synopsis
Currently unemployed Juri Yukawa has a special talent that not even her family knows about - she has the power to stop time! When her brother, Tsubasa, and nephew, Makoto, are kidnapped by the mysterious Genuine Love Society, Juri’s grandfather reveals that he too has a similar power thanks to a strange stone he possesses which allows himself and anyone close by to merge with Spectres and travel through Stasis - a world where time stands still. Travelling to Stasis along with her father, Takafumi, Juri attempts to infiltrate the Genuine Love Society stronghold in the hope of finding her brother and nephew while uncovering the truth behind her strange powers.
Adapted from the manga written and illustrated by Seita Horio, the Kokkoku TV anime was announced on Oct. 16, 2017 and premiered on Jan. 7, 2018 on Tokyo MX and BS 11. The series is also available to stream worldwide via Amazon Prime Video.
The opening theme for the first series, “Flashback,” is performed by MIYAVI Vs KenKen while Boku no Lyric no Boyomi perform the show’s end titles track, “Asayake To Nettaigyo.”
Characters
Juri Yukawa (Chika Anzai)
Despite her bright and capable personality, Juri has failed 19 job interviews in a row and is struggling to stay positive while her family collapses around her. Unknown even to those closest to her, Juri has the ability to stop time. Travelling into the timeless world of Stasis in the hope of rescuing her brother Tsubasa and nephew Makoto, Juri discovers she has the ability to expel Spectres from those in Statis by hitting them with the flat of her palm.
Shoko Majima (Asami Seto)
Shoko Majima is around the same age as Juri but seems older thanks to her cool, strong-willed personality. Serving as an advisor to Junji Sagawa - the leader of the Genuine Love Society, Shoko sometimes looks sad as if she has secrets of her own…
Grandfather (Kazuhiro Yamaji)
Juri’s grandfather and the father of Takafumi. Grandfather is stubborn and uncooperative, but is quick to come up with a plan to restore the normal life of his family. He is also the original owner of the stone which allows those nearby to merge with Spectres and travel through Stasis, and possesses the ability to teleport himself and anyone he touches, but not very far.
Makoto Yukawa (Ryuto Iwata)
Nephew of Juri and Tsubasa, son of Sanae, grandson of Takafumi, and great-grandson of Grandfather, Makoto is an extremely curious little boy. The family’s common hope is that Makoto at least can be raised properly.
Takafumi Yukawa (Koji Tsujitani)
Father of Juri, Tsubasa, and Sanae - mother of his grandson Makoto. Recently laid off from his job, Takafumi leaves most of the household affairs to his wife, Nobuko, and struggles to assert paternal authority over his household.
Tsubasa Yukawa (Hirofumi Nojima)
Juri’s older brother, Tsubasa is a NEET and virtual hikikomori who rarely goes outside and spends his days playing video games. Tsubasa is kidnapped along with Makoto on the way home from picking him up from kindergarten but finds a different side of himself in Stasis when he vows to take Makoto under his wing and stop him turning out like he has.
Junji Sagawa (Hozumi Goda)
Junji Sagawa is the head of the Genuine Love Society - a position he inherited from his father. Cooly and calmly Junji will do whatever it takes to succeed in his goal though he also has a strong natural desire to search for the truth.
Shiomi (Yuya Uchida)
Shiomi is Junji Sagawa’s right-hand man and a member of his abduction squad. Intelligent and methodical, Shiomi calmly thinks through his options and selects the best course of action.
Sako (Hiroyuki Yoshino)
An employee of the Genuine Love Society, Sako put the abduction team together but eventually decides to side with Shoko as he is only in the society for the job and does not believe in Junji’s philosophy. He is impulsive and has a temper but is also willing to listen to other people’s opinions and wants to make the most informed decision.
Yosuke Majima
Younger brother of Shoko Majima, Yosuke became a Handler 17 years ago and was the only survivor when the family were rescued after being kidnapped and taken to Stasis.
Nobuko Yukawa
Juri and Tsubasa’s working mother, wife to Takafumi, grandmother to Makoto, and daughter-in-law to Grandfather.
Sanae Yukawa (Hitomi Nabatame)
Sister to Juri and Tsubasa, daughter of Nobuko and Takafumi, Sanae is a single mother to only son Makoto.
