Synopsis
Freshman Iori is so excited to start his life at Izu University. A fresh start, fun experiences, new friends, plus the roaring sea and blazing sun… what more could anyone want? He even gets to room with his family at his uncle’s diving shop Grand Blue! Everything seems perfect… until he walks into the shop and is confronted by drunk, naked men from the diving club Peek-A-Boo!
Chased down and forced to play a strip version of rock-paper-scissors, Iori ends up drinking and partying with them… only to wake up outside the university in boxers minutes before his first day of orientation starts! Even worse, he’s somehow gotten roped into joining their club! What was supposed to be a normal college life ends up being one surrounded by muscular nude rascals drunkenly getting into all sorts of shenanigans.
This isn’t at all what Iori thought college would be like!
Anime Adaptation
Written by Kenji Inoue and illustrated by Kimitake Yoshioka, this comedy series has been serialized in Kodansha’s manga magazine Good! Afternoon since Apr. 2014. First announced in March 2018, the anime adaptation is slated to run for 12 episodes.
The opening theme is “Grand Blue” by Shounan no Kaze. The ending theme is “Konpeki no al Fine” by Izu no Kaze, which is comprised of the main cast members Yuuma Uchida, Ryouhei Kimura, Hiroki Yasumoto, and Katsuyuki Konishi.
Characters
Iori Kitahara (Voiced by: Yuuma Uchida)
Iori is a freshman at Izu University majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He lives with his uncle and cousins at the diving shop Grand Blue. He cannot swim whatsoever, though he is skilled at games that require accuracy. His desire to have a standard college experience is immediately thrown out the window when he’s around members of the diving club Peek-A-Boo.
Chisa Kotegawa (Voiced by: Chika Anzai)
Chisa attends Izu University and is one of Iori’s cousins. Enamored with the ocean, she dreams of becoming a diving instructor once she graduates. Although she is a member of Peek-A-Boo, she rarely parties with them and is in fact easily embarrassed and angered at their senseless shenanigans.
Nanaka Kotegawa (Voiced by: Maaya Uchida)
Nanaka is a beautiful diving instructor at Grand Blue and one of Iori’s cousins. A kind soul, she enjoys watching the antics of the members of Peek-A-Boo. Though she seems relatively normal, she actually has an unhealthy infatuation for her sister Chisa, unbeknownst to her.
Kohei Imamura (Voiced by: Ryohei Kimura)
Kohei is a freshman at Izu University and a rival, friend, and classmate to Iori. His good looks clash hard with the fact that he always wears clothes with anime girls on them. A hardcore otaku at heart, Kohei simply wants to run a harem of cute high school girls… Easily manipulated, he was tricked into becoming a member of Peek-A-Boo by Iori.
Shinji Tokita (Voiced by: Hiroki Yasumoto)
Shinji is a senior at Izu University and the president of Peek-A-Boo. He is always encouraging members of the club to drink and get naked! He supposedly has a girlfriend, though no one has actually seen her.
Ryujiro Kotobuki (Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi)
Ryujiro is a senior at Izu University and a member of Peek-A-Boo. A part-time bartender, he joins Shinji in encouraging the members to party hard. Surprisingly, he is actually very skilled when it comes to diving and has extensive knowledge about the subject. As such, he has a special interest in helping Iori when it comes to swimming and diving.
Azusa Hamaoka (Voiced by: Toa Yukinari)
Azusa is a senior at Oumi Women’s College and a member of Peek-A-Boo. She has no problem participating in their crazy antics. For some reason, she’s utterly convinced that Iori is attracted to Kohei.
Aina Yoshiwara (Voiced by: Kana Asumi)
Aina is a freshman at Oumi Women’s College. A member of the tennis club Tinkerbell, she has been cruelly nicknamed Cakey because she is infamous for caking on her makeup to try and be more attractive.
