Island video 1

Synopsis

The island of Urashima has had its fair share of mysteries, and Setsuna is the newest one on the list. One summer morning, he’s found on the shore, naked and without any substantial memories of where he’s come from or what he was doing before… Strangely enough, he does have the utmost confidence in why he’s there: to save a girl, save the island, and kill someone.

Immediately, he accepts a position as a live-in maid for one of the island’s elite families in order to avoid being shipped back to the mainland, but his troubles are only just beginning.

How can he possibly carry out his mission without memories? It doesn’t help that he’s plagued by strange visions, or that he keeps encountering people who seem to know something about him. His own existence isn’t the only mystery, either; Setsuna keeps hearing talk about weird and tragic events that happened on Urashima five years ago…

Anime Adaptation

Originally a visual novel that was developed by Frontwing and published by Prototype, the game first released for Windows in April 2016, followed by releases for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4. The anime adaptation was first announced March 2017.

The opening theme is “Eien no Hitotsu” by Yukari Tamura (the voice actress who voices Rinne), with the ending theme “Eternal Star” by Asaka.

Characters

Setsuna Sanzenkai (Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki)

Setsuna is a young man who mysteriously washed up naked on the shore of the island Urashima. Suffering from amnesia, he seems to have no substantial memories, though he’s confident that he was sent back in time to save a girl, save the island, and kill someone. Even though he is burdened with his mission and lack of memories, Setsuna is actually quite easy-going and has a somewhat perverted sense of humor.

Rinne Ohara (Voiced by: Yukari Tamura)

Rinne is the only daughter of one of the island’s three elite families. She comes across as a shut-in since she is never seen outside of her house during the day, though she does like to take nightly strolls along the shore. She may know something about Setsuna though she doesn’t seem quite sure herself. There’s a rumor that, around five years ago, she both disappeared and appeared again.

Karen Kurutsu (Voiced by: Kana Asumi)

Karen is the rebellious daughter of the island’s mayor. The exact opposite of her father, she wants nothing more than to run away from the island and never return. When it comes to romance, she’s a late bloomer. She was also the first person to find Setsuna, though her clumsiness made for an embarrassing and regrettable first encounter.

Sara Garandou (Voiced by: Hibiku Yamamura)

Sara is the head of Urashima Shrine. Around five years ago, she lost both of her parents in a fire. She believes that Setsuna is from the future, and that she must assassinate him in order to save the island. Unfortunately for her, she is utterly tiny, clumsy, and prone to revealing her plots beforehand.

Kuon Ohara (Voiced by: Rina Satou)

Kuon is the mother of Rinne. Five years ago, her husband died of a mysterious illness, and she also seems to be suffering from some sort of illness. Pretty much a shut-in who doesn’t leave her room, she mainly communicates by writing notes on paper and slipping them under her door.

Mei Tandori (Voiced by: Yui Nakajima)

Mei is the type of person who wears black stockings all the time, even in the summer. The type of person you could see becoming a committee chairwoman, she excels at all of her academics and has more knowledge than she knows what to do with.

An Hatoma (Voiced by: Tomoyo Takayanagi)

An is a boyish girl who is vice president of the photography club. Always carrying around a camera, she has an interest in just about anything, though she’s fond of photographing small animals and beautiful girls.

Emiri Sunada (Voiced by: Takako Tanaka)

Emiri is an innocent glasses-wearing girl who has no problem discussing dumb and mundane topics for fun. Unlike most of her friends, she seems to be the most interested in romance and love.

Tarou Harisu (Voiced by: Mogi Takamasa)

Tarou is a policeman who attended university on the mainland, but then returned to Urashima. He has a gentle yet sociable personality that has won the trust of everyone. Though he is tasked with upholding the island’s isolationist policy, Tarou seems to hold no prejudice against Setsuna even though he’s a mainlander.
