Synopsis

Top magical lawyer Toru Muhyo and his assistant Jiro Kusano are the legal opposition to supernatural crime. According to the laws of the land, they track down ghosts and spirits who’ve caused harm or inconvenience to the living, sending them to heaven or hell depending on the judgement dictated by magical law. But when an old magical law school rival of Muhyo’s suddenly reappears, the pair are in for the fight of their lives.

Anime Adaptation

Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation is adapted from the manga by Yoshiyuki Nishi which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from December 2004 to March 2008. The anime adaptation was announced in the 16th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018 and premiered on Aug. 3 via SKY PerfecTV! and Animax.

SCREEN mode’s “Gifted” is the series’ opening theme while ending theme “Hotohashiru” is performed by Oresama.

Toru Muhyo (Voiced by: Ayumu Murase)

Toru Muhyo is the proprietor of a magical law consultation firm and is both the youngest ever graduate of Magical Law School and the top-rated executioner. Together with Jiro he tracks down and sentences supernatural creatures as the law dictates. Toru may have a stern, emotionless exterior, but he has a deep-seated sense of justice.

Jiro Kusano (Voiced by: Yu Hayashi)

Height: 170 cm

Dislikes: ghosts, Toru when he’s scary
Skills: papier mache, cooking
Jiro Kusano is Muhyo’s assistant and the lowest rated among second grade secretaries. He is kind (almost to a fault) but also a little bit useless. However, he also possesses an immense hidden inner strength.

Soratsugu Madoka / Enchu (Voiced by: Hiroshi Kamiya)

Height: 171 cm
Birthday: Dec. 24
Likes: tea, bread baked by Biko, jam made by Rio, tofu, honey plums
Dislikes: cooking, hot food, keeping things tidy, Yoichi’s dirty jokes
Skills: waking up Toru, studying, needlework, reading books all the way through, understanding Page’s poems (he’s the only one who does)
Soratsugu Madoka, also known as Enchu, was a childhood friend and later classmate of Toru’s but began to take a dark path following a traumatic incident.

Yoichi Himukai (Voiced by: Tetsuya Kakihara)

Height: 173 cm

Likes: sandwiches, girls
Dislikes: work, girls’ tears
Skills: sports, guessing the sizes of things, touching things, covert activity
A childhood friend of Toru’s, Yoichi Himukai is now a judge and expert in every kind of Magical Law except execution. He is also something of a pervert and enjoys trying to guess girls’ cup sizes.

Rio Kurotori (Voiced by: Satomi Akesaka)

Birthday: May 10
Likes: bread baked by Biko, coffee, baths
Dislikes: alcohol
Skills: shopping (she’s a good haggler), gardening, gratin (has 20 different recipes!),
Rio Kutori is Biko’s charismatic magical teacher. Though she is skilled at making magical tools, she is unable to use them.

Yu Abiko / Biko (Voiced by: Satomi Akesaka)

Height: 126 cm
Birthday: Feb. 28
Likes: gratin (Rio’s best of all), raisin bread, fruits (especially strawberries)
Dislikes: running (his clothes are too heavy!), fizzy drinks, long conversations
Skills: cleaning, analyzing things, looking after things, making silly mistakes (no self awareness)
Also known as Biko, Yu Abiko is a former classmate of Toru’s and a skilled artificer able to produce brushes, pens, and magical law books.

Page Klaus (Voiced by: Wataru Hatano)

Height: 190 cm
Birthday: May 25
Likes: poetry, pipe smoke, brandy, sweet coffee, ballet, opera, going for walks (especially setting off)
Dislikes: unpolished shoes, machinery, members of the association, parties, beautiful women
Skills: poetry (he likes to think), speed ironing, looking after his pupils (he likes to think)
Page Klaus is the head of the Magical Law Association’s Investigation Department. Now Yoichi’s boss, he was also Toru and Enchu’s teacher. Page believes that Magical Law starts with fitness, but is also a keen poet and adopts a paternal attitude towards his students.

Reiko Imai (Voiced by: Mitsuki Saiga)

Height: 164 cm
Birthday: Oct. 7
Likes: milk
Dislikes: astrology (likes it but doesn’t want to look)
Skills: memory (can recite things off book), kendo
One of Yoji’s juniors, Reiko Imai is a judge who is resolute in her strictness but also has a caring side.

Nana Takenouchi (Voiced by: Iori Nomizu)

Height: 164 cm
Birthday: July 7
Likes: Jiro’s tea, beautiful scenery, trips to hot springs
Dislikes: boredom
Skills: Shutterbug, high speed capture, hidden camera
Nana Takenouchi is an aspiring photographer. She doesn’t get on too well with Toru but loves Jiro’s tea.

Teeki the Fallen (Voiced by: Tetsuharu Ota)

Teeki is Enchu’s right-hand man and a traitor marked by the Magical Law Association for 800 years.

Kenji Satou (Voiced by: Kouhei Amasaki)

Height: 135 cm
Birthday: Dec. 7
Likes: hamburgers, balls, Jabin
Dislikes: studying, chairs and desks, the recorder, carrots, all kinds of onions
Skills: sports, running away from things, pranks
Kenji Satou is a naughty little boy who didn’t believe in ghosts and thought Toru and Jiro were a pair of conmen, even going so far as to wreck their sign. He changed his mind when the pair saved him from a ghost attack.

Maeda (Voiced by: Yoji Ueda)

Maeda is a jailor at the No. 18 Magical Prison alongside Furuya and Iwamoto.

Furuya (Voiced by: Ami Koshimizu)

Furuya works alongside Maeda as a prison guard at the No. 18 Magical Prison and is engaged to Iwamoto.

Iwamoto (Voiced by: Kazumasa Fukagawa)

Iwamoto is a guard at the No. 18 Magical Prison working alongside his fiancée Furuya and colleague Maeda.

Fujiwara (Voiced by: Kyosuke Ikeda)

Fujiwara is an assistant judge working under Reiko at the No. 18 Magical Prison.
