ヤマノススメ サードシーズン

Thanks to her fear of heights, Aoi never imagined she would be spending her free time climbing all sorts of beautiful mountains alongside close friends…but after a childhood friend invites her on a climbing trip similar to the one they took when they were children, Aoi begins to feel the wonder of the mountains charm her all over again.

For her, mountain climbing has become a hobby, and perhaps something even more. After realizing she was only physically capable of reaching the halfway point of Mt. Fuji, Aoi is determined to improve her stamina and strength, and try again next year.

This determination means that, for the next year, Aoi and the rest of her mountain climbing buddies are in for new challenges and experiences that’ll mold them into even better climbers!

Anime Adaptation

Written by Shiro, this mountain climbing slice-of-life series has been serialized in the manga magazine Comic Earth Star since August 2011. The third season was first announced in June 2017. Much like the first season (12 episodes at 5 minutes each) and second season (24 episodes at 15 minutes each), the third season also follows a short anime format and will run for 13 episodes at 15 minutes each.

The opening theme is “Chiheisen Stride” by cast members Yuka Iguchi, Kana Asumi, Youko Hikasa, and Yui Ogura. The ending theme “Irochigai no Tsubasa” is also performed by the cast members Yuka Iguchi and Kana Asumi.

Aoi Yukimura (Voiced by: Yuka Iguchi)

Aoi is a high school student who is both kind and socially awkward. When she was younger, she discovered the beauty of a rising sun from a mountaintop alongside her childhood friend Hinata. However, after a nasty fall from a jungle gym, she developed a fear of heights and a preference for the indoors. After reuniting with Hinata, her fear is still a factor, but little by little she has become charmed by the beauty of the mountains and the experiences that come along with climbing them. If she isn’t climbing or going to school, she’s probably working part-time at a cake shop.

Hinata Karaue (Voiced by: Kana Asumi)

Hinata is a high school student who has an immense love for mountains and climbing thanks to her father. Upon entering high school, she reconnected with Aoi and, stating that she wanted to see the rising sun from a mountain with her again like in the old days, persuaded her to come along on another mountain climbing trip. She has a sociable and silly personality, often making dumb or obscure jokes.

Kaede Saitou (Voiced by: Youko Hikasa)

Kaede is the friend and upperclassman of both Aoi and Hinata. Her and Aoi first met at a second-hand mountain climbing shop. She is incredibly athletic and well-versed at mountain climbing. More than happy to offer advice to Aoi, she comes across as a reliable older sister.

Kokona Aoba (Voiced by: Yui Ogura)

Kokona is a middle school student who is also fond of mountain climbing. After encountering Aoi and Hinata on a mountain path, they became close friends. Though she is young, she has a quiet and ladylike personality that can be surprising. Not only is she dependable, but she also has the ability to keep firm stances on subjects she feels strongly about. She loves animals and cute things.

Honoka Kurosaki (Voiced by: Nao Touyama)

Honoka is a skilled photographer who first met Aoi on Mt. Tanigawa.

Kenichi Kuraue (Voiced by: Seirou Ogino)

Kenichi is the father of Hinata. An experienced mountain climber, he is the one who took Hinata and Aoi to Mt. Tanigawa when they were younger and began their love of climbing.

Hikari Onozuka (Voiced by: Yoko Gibu)

Hikari is an excitable student who works part-time alongside Aoi at the cake shop. She is a romantic and happy to help Aoi when she can.
