OtapediaIntegrity Knights - Sword Art Online

Integrity Knights (整合騎士 seigō kishi), designated on the system level as Integrator (インテグレータ integurēta), are dragon knights, the commanding generals of the Axiom Church and the personal guard of its pontifex Quinella. They are former dissidents, rogues, and the crema-de-la-crema fighters of the Human Empire who had been robbed of their memories and converted into unconditional servitude. Originally tasked to shield Quinella from Cardinal, the tyrannic teocracy and the status quo of the empire, their goals started to change along with the situation.

Names

Every Integrity Knight's name is their prior first name, followed by two English words: "Synthesis" and their ordinal number.

Background

The first Integrity Knights were the Underworlders whose hidden Transgression Quotient parameter was high. That meant a potential for disobedience, overcoming the Taboo Index restriction, and rebellion against Quinella's countrywide stasis effort. They were caught, but Quinella could not simpy dispose of them since her parents forbade her to murder. So, she captured them and began experimentations on their Fluctlights, exploring its makings and looking for ways to manipulate it. Their memories suffered in the experiments, and they went into a stasis where their maximum Life never decreased and they did not do anything but keep breathing.

After Cardinal had split off into her own new body and become a threat, Quinella found a new use for her traumatized captives, making them her first bodyguards. Furthermore, she had established the Four Empires Unity Tournament, and those who won it were henceforth invited to the Central Cathedral to undergo Quinella's Synthesis Ritual and become yet another Integrity Knight. Their families were sent rich rewards and granted higher noble ranks, prompting all the haughty nobles and merchants to get their children to learn swordplay.

The Integrity Knights' memories are superceded by the notion that the Administrator summoned them from the Celestial World, so they have no ties to this one. The other Knights who had brought the new dissident into their ranks also necessarily have their memories altered before the new Knight joins them.

Out of the thirty-one Integrity Knights at the moment, only half of the most are the former dissidents — the other half are the tournament winners. Two, Fizel and Linel, have their own story. They used to be Quinella's resurrection experiment guinea pigs, but that was canceled, so they could choose their next Sacred Task, or Calling, for themselves. They chose to become Integrity Knights, but only became that after having killed the previous Knights Synthesis Twenty-eight and Twenty-nine.

Location

Since the apocalyptic phase of Project Alicization 1/4 started, twelve to thirteen Knights defend Quinella in the Cathedral, while eight of them guard the four passages against the Dark Territory attacks, Fizel and Linel study law and the Sacred Arts in the Cathedral, and others keep order in the four empires.

The Knights also travel to apprehend the new criminals to Synthesize and bring them to the Central Cathedral. They are never sent to the regions they hailed from initially, since someone might recognize them there and, on an off-chance, convince they are not celestial beings.

Gear and Stats

High-ranking Integrity Knights wear armor and use Divine Objects-class weapons from the Cathedral Armory stock. Their Object Control and System Control Authority stats are only second to Quinella's. All Knights do not age, excel at speed-chanting, and have advanced Sacred Arts rituals handy. They use dragons to move around and during air battles.

Synthesis Ritual

The Synthesis Ritual (シンセサイズの秘儀, shinsesaizu no higi) is a supervisor-tier Sacred Arts ritual that manipulates people's Fluctlights. The Fluctlight core needs to be unlocked for that, and while those willingly subjecting themselves to the ritual (such as Quinella doing it to herself) can have it removed with a simple command, the unwilling need persuasion, known as forced synthesis, that takes three days spent in continual special rituals that set all the necessary parameters first. This ritual can only be used on a person in sight or physical contact with the practitioner.

The ritual is named to imply the unification of one's soul and memory.

Piety Module

The Integrity Knights go through a Synthesis that differs from the original "guinea pigs" in that they get a Piety Module (敬神モジュール paieti mojūru) installed in their Fluctlights. The module has a visual shape of a purple prism 10 cm (3 in) long and is embedded into the victim's forehead.

While the victim's memories need to get suppressed security wise, memories are also what governs their applied skills that make the victim useful to Quinella. As such, only the personally attaching memories are obstructed by the Piety Module, which replaces them with false memories, at the same time enforcing unquestioning deference to the Axiom Churth.

Insistently shaking the personal loving memories awake actually overrides and pushes out the Module, causing the prism to fall out. However, the memory fragment replaced by the Module has to return to the remissive person; otherwise, their flow will be broken, and for some, may cause damage to the remaining memories.
