The nominees of the 38th Japan Academy Prize, an award ceremony for honoring the excellent films of 2014 and the staff who made them, were announced on Jan. 14. This year, five works were nominated for Animation of the Year.
Stand by Me Doraemon, which released Japan-wide on Aug. 8, has become a record-breaking hit. Twenty days after its release, on Aug. 27, the official box office earnings were announced to be 5,043,058,900, well over 5 billion yen. Tickets sold numbered 3,817,074.
2014 marks the 80th birthday of Fujiko F. Fujio, whose representative works include the manga Doraemon. This year also marks the 40th anniversary of Bandai’s toy brand Chogokin. Now, a surprising toy has been introduced as a project for both of these anniversaries.
