Doraemon Announces 38th Movie!

Doraemon Announces 38th Movie!

Doraemon, the long-running anime based on Fujiko F. Fujio’s legendary manga, has announced its 38th film! Set to premiere in March 2018, Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Treasure Island will be based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s world-renowned adventure novel.

Sitting in the director’s chair is Imai Kazuaki, an episode director from the Doraemon TV series. He is familiar with Fujiko’s work, his very first anime directed being 21 Emon, which was screened at the Fujiko F. Fujio Museum.

Penning the script is Kawamura Genki, a producer from Kimi no Na wa. ( Your Name. ) and The Boy and the Best. He also published a best-selling novel titled, Sekai kara Neko ga Kieta nara (If Cats Vanished from the World) in 2012 and a picture book in 2013.

The Doraemon movie series has been running continuously for nearly 40 years, releasing a new movie almost every year since 1980, the only exception being 2005. This year’s movie, Doraemon the Movie 2017: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi was the highest grossing from the new generation series, so the bar is set high, but Doraemon’s version of Treasure Island looks just as promising. Stay tuned for new developments!
