Synopsis

Jahy was the second-in-command in the Demon Realm and enjoyed the respect and fear of the other demons, living a selfish and extravagant life. But when the Demon Realm is destroyed by a magical girl named Kyoko Jingu, she suddenly finds herself in the human world as a powerless little girl! Having lost both her power and her beauty, she is forced to live in poverty in a tiny apartment without a bath and work part-time at a local pub called Izakaya Mao. Determined to rebuild the Demon Realm and regain her former glory, her hectic life in the human world begins!

Background

The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! began as a one-shot manga by Wakame Konbu in March 2017 before being picked up by Square Enix. It has been serialized in the monthly shonen manga magazine Gangan Joker since August 2017, and as of April 2020 six tankobon volumes have been released. The manga is licensed for English release in North America by Square Enix Manga & Books.

An anime adaptation was announced in April 2021. It is being animated by SILVER LINK and features Mirai Minato (Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense, The Dungeon of Black Company, Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World) as director with Michiko Yokote (Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K., Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches) handling series composition, Saori Nakashiki (Darling in the Franxx, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable*, Puella Magi Madoka Magica) handling character designs and also serving as chief animation director, and Koji Fujimoto (B: The Beginning) and Osamu Sasaki (Eyeshield 21, Ichigo 100%) composing the music. The anime’s first opening theme song is "Fightin★Pose" by Yui Ogura, and the ending theme song is “Tsumari wa Itsumo Kujikenai!” by NEGI☆U. The anime will premiere in Japan on August 1, 2021 as part of the ANiMAZiNG!!! programming block on ABC and TV Asahi. It is scheduled to run for two cours.

Characters

Jahy (Voiced by: Naomi Ozora)
The former second-in-command of the Demon Realm. She is feared, respected, and admired by the demons. She currently lives in the human world after the Demon Realm is destroyed. She has lost her power and beauty and has become a little girl due to a magic crystal being destroyed by a magical girl. She struggles to adapt to the human world due to her current form, but her confidence, vigor, and ambition remain unchanged.

Druj (Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa)
Jahy’s subordinate. Though she was treated unreasonably by Jahy while in the Demon Realm, she is nonetheless fascinated by him. She takes on the name Dojima in the human world and is the president of a consulting company who lives in a high rise apartment.

Manager (Voiced by: Ai Kayano)
The manager of Izakaya Mao, where Jahy works part-time. She is always kind and gentle to Jahy and calls her Hi-chan. She is concerned about her weight and enjoying dieting.

Oya (Voiced by: Yoko Hikasa)
Jahy’s landlady at the apartment where she lives and Manager’s sister. She is in a constant war with Jahy to get her to pay rent every month. She cares about Jahy to some degree, but she is too much of a tsundere to show her honest feelings.

Salwa (Voiced by: Mikako Komatsu)
An elite magician who wants to take Jahy’s place as the second in command in the Demon Realm. However, she is timid and overly cautious.

Kyoko Jingu (Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka)
The girl who is responsible for the destruction of the Demon Realm. She now works at Izakaya Mao along with Jahy.

Kokoro (Voiced by: Yui Ogura)
